A call to the community for help!

The amazing community of DGrin has to date donated over $4000
to the Murphy family to save their family house from foreclosure.
This combined with some other money that they had set aside to begin with
leaves them able to pay the bank and have a good portion of next months payment
as well.

Thank You DGRIN for caring!

It has come to my attention that a fellow member and photographer here on dgrin is in need of some help. Cmurph recently placed 1st in the 3rd Semi final leg of the Last Photographer Standing contest
and obviously has a passion for photography like all of us. Unfortunately Chris has been forced to put up “all my gear” http://www.digitalgrin.com/showthread.php?t=76886 for sale to try and raise money towards staving off an imminent foreclosure of her families house. See the details here----> http://www.digitalgrin.com/showpost.php?p=687402&postcount=18

I realize this may be breaching the privacy of cmurph as this information was told to me via a PM when I asked why Chris was selling all of her gear. But I was moved to ask if the community was able to help at all?

I personally have never asked this community for help but I have seen how it can come together and help our fellow dgrinners in a time of stress and need. I was moved to try and help simply because I too have been in a situation of not knowing where the next mortgage payment will come from and I have been there.

I do not know how to begin a trust fund or what other possible ideas can be thought of that may help cmurph but even if nothing comes of this post, I personally am willing to pledge $200.00 towards helping cmurph in her time of need.

Response has been tremendous! but the Murphy family is still very short of being able to make the payment before November 30th

EDIT:
I have now emailed my pledge of $200.00 to Chris
using her PayPal email -- that is on her contact link on her website.
here - http://www.cmurphy-photo.com/

the email to use is. cmurphy@intergui.com

Or if you do not have a PayPal account you can use the donate button here:
http://www.sherstone.com/cmurph-donation.html
This is hosted on my website but the button has the proper information needed to send the money to Chris.

For those of you that want to help but only have unused equipment to donate to the cause,
please post your donation here: http://www.digitalgrin.com/showthread.php?t=77158

Please send even your positive thoughts and prayers to her even if you cannot help financially.

Thanks
Sean

    Sean,

Why do I love iloveyou.gif the folks of Dgrin?

Let me count the ways ....deal.gif

You are so awesome to help Chris...let us know when you get the fund set up so we can help. (Many of us have been there and would loved to have had someone like you helping.....instead of MasterCard at 18%!)

    You are special! wings.gifbowdown.gifclap.gif

    Wow!
Thank you everyone for your generosity.

    Another $100.00 pledge
as well as several other $20.00 pledges
    have been PM'd to me

I am still trying to work out how to get this money to Chris

I could use my personal Paypal account and then send her a check
but I would prefer to have her use her own account
but she has only ever used it to pay for things and is unsure about how it works
I have asked her to look into it and I will update here when I know for sure the best method.

    Thank you again!

You can use paypal to send money straight to your bank account. So if Chris had money from her paypal, she could transfer it to her own savings/checking account for a cost. Of course, if she had a money market acct that would work too, and that has a better interest rate than a savings.

I too am in a bit of a crunch and have just changed jobs with less hours.....will keep watching the posts......here is what I would do...cintact paypal and get a donations button on YOUR site...seee if paypal will waive the 2 or 3 % that the transfer will encur from them if so then theat is the best theing to do......all cmurph needs is an email addy and checking acount for it to go into.....I suggest this as it is the cheapest and fastest way to transfer money......I always use paypal when I can...long before I use western Union, but if I can only send by WA then that is what I use for time sensitive mattters.................good luck and if I can I will pledge tomorrow after seeing my check and what is left over from my house payment and bills.

Good Luck in this great endeavor

I am not exactly sure why Sean has done this for me ...

    Happy thanksgiving to you all.

I have done it because I believe in helping someone when I can. You did not ask me but I was called to do it by my heart . I in fact wanted to do this without asking you to begin with because I was afraid you would refuse my help.

It is not just me anymore - The amazing people of Digital Grin have responded and responded quite generously! Even if all they do is send positive thoughts your way or if they believe in prayer, can pray for your families well being and a positive outcome to this situation. I am ever thankful for our community!

You are in our thoughts... And please let us know if there is any other way that we can help.

Money sent via paypal. You should still contact paypal and ask if they can do anything about their fee since every little bit helps (maybe nothing can be done). And don't forget that it takes paypal a bit of time to transfer the money to your checking account.

Good luck. And please let us know what happens....

    Chris-

I hardly ever use my PayPal, so I hope you receive my transfer OK.

No matter what happens, we can all at least try and lift a bit of the pressure and stress off your shoulders.

One suggestion would be to use google checkout, its similar to paypal but until the first of the year has no fees as a way to entice people to try it out. I have on a number of occasions received payment thru it.
"A photo is like a hamburger. You can get one from McDonalds for $1, one from Chili's for $5, or one from Ruth's Chris for $15. You usually get what you pay for, but don't expect a Ruth's Chris burger at a McDonalds price, if you want that, go cook it yourself." - me

I too was thinking that would be a great option. The problem Chris is facing right now is a matter of "time" - I am concerned that setting up a G checkout process may even take longer than the whole Paypal process, and she will end up having funds tied up.

(I could be totally wrong, but it is a concern)

Another big thank you for the amazing response and help that everyone is contributing.

    Sam

    Thanks for asking the question.

I'm pretty sure you can send money via PayPal once you sign up
    but failing that

I think mailing a check would be helpful as well.

I will PM you Chris' address

Anyone else needing the address can PM me or cmurph (Chris)

BTW - sending money via PayPal does not cost the sender anything extra.

    Sean,

Thanks for the info. I don't have a PayPal account, and DON"T want one!

I had an account once, and all I recieved was a bunch of spam, and requests for all my finatial info. When I tried to contact PayPay I found they don't have a phone number, and seemed to have great diffaculty in responding to e-mails.

I don't do business with any company I can't call!

    Thanks again, :D
