Hey we just moved into new quarters and are looking for a few good prints. Send me a link and maybe your cash register will ring. :wink

(But don't get hopes too high; we have limited wall space and strangely colored walls.)

I have a special request that isn't mandatory but would be nice... I'd like to fetch the original and make my own prints on account of we're evaluating adding a pro lab as an option for youz to sell your photos through. Some of them have really nice mounting and surface options. I'm particularly fond of the standouts from ProDPI and Bay Photo Lab.

I bought a few prints last night through our current shopping cart (which is gonna change soon to look more like the buy this photo add to cart option), but I'm comparing pro labs at the moment so I'd like to kill two birds with one stone.

I'd love to see Bay Photo added as an additional lab. I find their prints to be identical in quality to MPix and they offer some sizes which I can't get elsewhere (12x30 for panoramic prints I have). Their shipping is also just as fast as Mpix. I'd also REALLY love to use their 11x16 size instead of 11x14 with EZPrints since the cropping is too much for my taste.

The good news just keeps coming here at Smugmug. :D

Here's a few to look at. I have no idea what you're looking for, but these are some that keep showing up in my popular photos (so someone must like them). I can make originals available for you in an unlisted gallery if you need.

Do you find the true color prints to be the same or the color-corrected ones?

I've visited both labs and run a zillion test prints and simply can't believe my eyes with Mpix... I can't explain the color corrected prints and how you get such different results from the same print on repeat orders. I have them scattered all over tables and people who see them can't believe the same lab produced variants so far apart.

The disadvantage with Bay is they charge for color correction but the advantage is they seem to do it really well. And they offer true pro products and great packaging options. I get the feeling Mpix is more prosumer migrating towards consumer.

My only explanation on Mpix is they have to whip through the hand color correction because it's free even on 29-cent prints so each one has to be done really fast.

Mpix admits that color correction is done by different people so there is no guarantee that there will be consistency from order to order. I've always been pleased with the results from them, but when I have printed the same image on more than one occasion I have noticed some variability.

I do NOT use color correction so unfortunately I can't really speak to that aspect of their service. I always order my prints with NO color correction and that has yielded identical prints from both MPix and Bay..

this surprises me since MPix auto color is adjusted manually by a "color" specialist (which changes each time you order).

I think he's saying he doesn't choose the auto color option, and in that case they provide consistent results.

I'm getting pretty consistent color-corrected results from Bay and ProDPI but I think it's because they assign a person or two to your account. Mpix has a whole room of harried correctors and you get different people.

Great shots in this thread. I definitely have to have that mud jumper who is gonna be a conversation piece on our wall (and I'll be looking through all the others too). I had a great time looking through John Friend's galleries last night.

    a few to consider
    Hey Baldy-

I keep some of my best work in two small galleries here:

    http://lyonsimaging.smugmug.com/Portfolio

They're fully retouched and uploaded at full-res and low jpeg compression, so they're ready to go immediately.

And I'd like to put in another vote for Bay Photo. I've never used their auto color, so don't know about that, but I use them for all my non-SmugMug volume, and have been very happy with both the quality and the very short shipping times to the Bay Area, where most of my clients, and I, live.

12x30 panoramic prints? They're gonna make a lot of money from me. ;-)

I've been begging MPIX to do some panoramic stand-outs and they refuse.

    Thanks for the info....

You can have this one if you like and it goes with your decor. Best photo I've ever taken.

I had a local interior decorator print this one quite large for a client and it came out beautifully. Quite dramatic on the right color wall.
