I hope you are right. I just switched to creating local JPEGs and uploading them using the "Simple" uploader. That worked fine with no backlogs or delays.

There seems to just be a monstrous queue to process photos right now... I was having the same exact issue. I then gave up on Lightroom and I used the online simple uploader. Two pictures went up fine, but now they have been sitting in the processing queue for almost an hour...

I paid for SmugMug last night, I sure chose the perfect time. I love the set up of the site, but I hope these issues aren't a regular thing.

TheBrady: I've been on SM for over a year and this only the 2nd really big issue I've experienced and no site/service is available 100% of the time. The differentiator, and one of the huge selling points of SM to me was and is the incredible support team they have. You can rest easy knowing you invested in a great service.

If you have issues after the backlog is cleared, I can assure you that one of the SM Superheroes will be more than happy to get you running on all cylinders again.

I understand the backlog and "processing" issues, not a problem to wait a bit. However, I am still having some pretty slow load times on images in all of my galleries.

cjoconn22: It's all connected. The "system" that is housing the website service (including functionality of uploading, downloading and displaying pages and images) is right now sluggish due to what I understand to be a backlog resulting from an earlier technical issue. It goes back to the "pipe" theory and you can only get so much traffic through a connection (that includes uploading and downloading) at a time. If the pipeline becomes congested then you have slowness, just like a traffic jam at a toll booth.

Not that I don't believe you, but I would like to hear that from a smugmug employee. Also, it would be great if we could get an "All Clear" when the backlog has been thinned out. I need to send out email notification that client photos have been posted, but I'm not going to do that until that site is up to full speed.

OK, what gives with the sites slowness?
The past two days of me being on my site has been painful due to the slowness. My galleries take at least a minute to load (there aren't that many and they are not that big), and now I upload one image (approx 3.3 meg in size) and it still isn't done processing after 5 minutes! I have noticed this getting worse over the months and certainly not a feature I enjoy putting up with...

BRJPhoto: I understand, and SM Employees "Andy" has said this in previous posts in this thread. All I'm trying to do is lighten the load for them having to repeat themselves a thousand times while also trying to fix the problem. It is a community effort.

Lots of folks uploading right now.

As an IT professional I hate hearing this from end users but in this case I must say...Isn't time to add more capacity/horsepower? Seems like there is room for improvement! :D

Andy, should general slowness still be a problem? I'm not doing any uploading, just checking out my site. Really slow.

I have a request in with heroes, is that my best bet, or do you know of any residual slowness besides image processing?

    Thanks,

Wow, thanks for this post. I thought I was alone and crazy. I have been slow for days, it's been really painful. So just about 30 minutes ago things were going fine, pages loading relatively fast. So about 15 minutes ago I loaded a small, 141kb image and it's still processing. I can't access it. I was also unable to upload via the "send to smugmug" tool. I did it through the web browser.

I'll sit tight as it looks like you guys are working on the issue.

Been noticing the site is slow for a few days and finally got around to checking the forum to see if there were any updates. Looks like you isolated an issue and implemented a fix... however, before I read through to the end, I tried some of the troubleshooting steps from the begining. I've attached a screenshot of the speedtest.net results for San Jose (I could get to San Fran fine).

I noticed that you guys are hosting the service for San Jose... wondering if this coincides with when people noticed a drop in performance or if you guys have been hosting this for a while.

I have been having major site speed issues for over a week now. This is happening to me on several different computers on several different network providers. I've received complaints from quite a few clients and it's beginning to become a large issue to me. A large percentage of the time I can not upload my photos, apply watermarks and customize galleries with any sort of reasonable speed, and sometimes it's unsuccessful all together. I've stuck it out for a year now, but it's growing increasingly old.

Andy, just take a little more time and fix it the first time. This on off on off, is much worse than a longer single outage.

I just spent the last hour adding captions to a gallery of over 100 photos (each caption different). When I hit save, I got the "site down' message! I hit the browser's back arrow and my captions are still there. I'm crossing my fingers I won't have to retype everything again.

My timing was really bad on this one. Now I just wait until the site is up again. *Yawn*

I almost forgot what I did before SmugMug haha. Luckily with it being so close to Mothers Day, people want to give some photos as gifts... so they will order them no matter how inconvenient it is. Hopefully it doesn't hurt sales.

I'm thinking not switching but establishing redundancy - hosting everything I have on here with somebody else in parallel. Considering how inexpensive it is nowadays I'm surprised I haven't thought of this earlier.
