Because I don't want it there. What difference would it make to this situation - are you saying I would have to log in every time?

Log in as me, close all your internet windows, open a new session go to laurencecounter.com and are you visibly logged in? Does anything happen when you refresh? I can't believe this is just me.

No, I'm not saying that. IF you follow my steps, you'll be logged in. And you stay logged in, no? Because I fixed your navbar links (which were hard coded to your nickname.smugmug.com).

Yes IF I follow your steps then I am logged in until I close that window.

But no I DON'T stay logged in!! If I go straight to then I am not 'visibly' logged in and can't access any admin toolbars and refreshing doesn't change anything.

Please follow my steps. Thanks.
We're still trying to figure out why IE8 won't keep the logged in cookie when the window closes.

Sorry and I do appreciate the effort but in the meantime - please put my site back to how it was an hour ago. I'm beginning to wish I hadn't said anything, at least I could access it then. Now I have to jump though hoops to get onto my own site. I feel like I went to Hospital with a broken leg and came out with a broken neck!

And it's not just ie8 by the way - my Firefox 3.5.2 does the exact same thing!

Not to worry - I put the Custom Header back as it was and my site is 'usable' once more.

I still look forward to the final cookie fix and will continue to refresh the Galleries for the time being :cry

I just reversed what you did before -
I modded the urls in your hard-coded navbar. Made them 'relative' not absoulte.

You had them as

http://.com/Macro

they just need to be

/Macro

It doesn't solve the not logged in issue for the Gallery pages - it just means that if I go straight to and refresh I get my admin buttons back again which is how it was earlier this evening.

I'll put them back when the cookie issue is resolved - for now this seems to be the only acceptable way I can access my site thumb.gif

Same problem...
Not to add fuel to the fire (it seems that Andy and Co. are working on things), but I'm having a similar problem with my buttons not appearing when I'm supposedly logged in. Just wanted to let folks know that it's happening on other accounts, too

1. login at www.smugmug.com
2. go immediately to your CUSTOM domain
3. refresh the page, you'll be cookied and logged in there

20090829-q2uqf8an9f4u6ine4kax264wik.jpg

You also don't need that 'www' before your custom domain, it's extra.

We're gonna fix the 'your photos' link for when you HAVE a custom domain, so that you will go right to it. And other places, too. We want to EMPHASIZE your custom name for google purposes.

I have similar issues as Laurence has/had.

To be more accurate:

I'm trying to log in under smugmugnickname.smugmug.com but am automatically redirected to my custom hostname.

For example, I log in under www.smugmug.com and go to http://mestofs.smugmug.com
So far so good.

But if I try to access
http://mestofs.smugmug.com/Web/wwwloicfontainecom/9030217_WMJN3#606302833_APbmE
then it automatically switches to
http://www.loicfontaine.com/Web/wwwloicfontainecom/9030217_WMJN3#606302833_APbmE

I have tried to clear all cookies, caches,... restarted my browser (firefox) and tried again but I kept getting the same result.

That is very annoying for example if I want to use the "Be social" function that only works while logged in under smugmugnickname.smugmug.com

Reading the following comment from Andy

I was wondering if this issue is not due to the fact that nicenames are coded as absolute url's instead of relative.

Does that make any sense Andy?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Yes, still has.

I'm so surprised this is not being reported by more users and that it hasn't been resolved yet headscratch.gif

I'm getting used to pressing Ctrl F5 every time I visit one of my galleries but really ...........................

I just did a test. Logged in with nickname and it stuck until using tools >
arrange > sort > captions. Upon returning to gallery the url was my domain. I
noticed this yesterday but didn't think about it. Seems after using tools the
url switches from nickname to domain. Also had to refresh to see tools
buttons. Same thing happens with "crop thumbnail".

Actually it's switching url when clicking on any gallery on sub-cat page.

Try changing these three lines of CSS:

#breadcrumb {visibility: hidden;}
#altViews {visibility: hidden;}
.loggedIn #breadcrumb {visibility: hidden;}

to this:

.notLoggedIn #breadCrumbTrail {display:none;}

Periodic problem
I have the same problem. Am logged in,bu looks as if I'm not as none of the owner control buttons appear. I'm constantly going to SM's main page to see if I got logged out. Didn't. Sometimes when I hit refresh I get my logged in features; other times, not. Totally screwed up today as is most of SM!

Funny thing I've only just noticed is that I have the option to title my images in the gallery even though the admin buttons are missing until I refresh. So it must recognise me as the user even though it picks up my visits on the stats unless I refresh.

I need it restated, I'm sorry - only because I want to be clear about your issue: http://www.loicfontaine.com/

Last night we released new code that handles logging in/out differently. Please let me know if you're still having troubles.

Still exactly the same for me. I still have to refesh my Gallery page to see all the buttons. I have logged out and in again to see if last nights changes might kick in but, no joy. It doesn't work.

you will always have to refresh once, or click a link to a gallery.

EDIT: Ugh, Laurence - it's is because you changed the links back again :( Please, please will you allow me to fix your navbar again? ear.gif

I never used to have to before a day or two prior my first post in this thread which now feels like forever ago. Once I touched base by clicking on the 'Home' button on my home page then every page I visited thereafter was logged in. Now I click on 'Home', all the buttons come up on the Homepage and the Category pages but not any of the Gallery pages until I refresh again.

Andy,

OK, I did a complete retry.

Here is exactly what I did:

1) I opened Firefox and went to the options to change some options to make sure that my cache, history, cookies,... were virgin:
- Options> Privacy> Show cookies> Remove all cookies
- Options> Privacy> Clear history when Firefox closes (selected)
- Security> Remember passwords for sites (unselected)
- Security> Saved passwords> Remove all (done)

2) Then I closed Firefox and restarted it again.

3) I typed following address: http://www.smugmug.com
then <login>
entered my login+pwd+remember me.
went to <your photos>

4) On my homepage, I clicked on my category called "Web" and was redirected to http://mestofs.smugmug.com/Web

5) I selected the gallery called "www.loicfontaine.com" and was redirected to http://www.loicfontaine.com/Web/wwwloicfontainecom/9030217_WMJN3#606302833_APbmE

AND HERE STARTS THE FIRST ISSUE. Why is it redirected to www.loicfontaine.com/... and not anymore to http://mestofs.smugmug.com/...

???

Because the previous gallery is a unlisted gallery, I tried the same procedure on a listed gallery.

1) not done again
2) done
3) done
4) On my homepage, I clicked on my category called "Public" and was redirected to http://mestofs.smugmug.com/Public

5) I selected the gallery called "Portraits" and was redirected to http://www.loicfontaine.com/Public/portraits/7892167_2GQ8w

AND HERE IS THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. Why is it redirected to www.loicfontaine.com/... and not anymore to http://mestofs.smugmug.com/...

???
