    Thanks,

New to smugmug - here's one from my vacation in the Philippines. The race was done right beside a freeway and a mall. Resulted in some interesting backgrounds...
Shot with the 70-300DO wide open, other images shot with 28-135mm, "slow lenses" by sports standards but IQ isn't bad...

The Heineken Cup is the biggest club rugby competition in Europe... last week Northampton Saints beat Munster in a thrilling match. I shot this with a Nikon D3, 70-20mm lens at f2.8 and ISO 6400.

Shane Geraghty took a quick tap penalty catching the Munster defence unawares. I fortunately spotted it and got my shot of the season so far...

This little guy makes the entire photo. He is the shortest on the field and with the #73, he plays the line. That's what I call courage.

    'Locked On'

Taken during a Central Hockey League game in Rapid City, SD. Rapid City Rush goalie, Miguel Beaudry, was eventually pulled for another goalie, but not until after several spectacular saves and 3 goals.

is yours the blue R1200GS now? and that X4 looks modded? longer rear swing arm and different rear wheel?

    shiny side up!

    cheers, Jase

Thanks a lot! I don't usually shoot motor sports, but it's something I want to do more of. (Also, bear in mind that all my photos from before mid-December 2008 were done with a point-and-shoot Canon.)

Yeah, I live in Tokyo. I borrowed the GS for a camping trip; the X4 is what I usually ride. I did mod it a lot, including a long swingarm, but switched back to a normal-length swingarm after I realized how much worse the handling was with the longer wheelbase.

Come on 'round to Japan. The Motegi Moto GP is in April, so that gives you enough time to plan a trip. :D

Thanks Travis...only wish I owned that piece of glass, rented it for a few days from Borrowlenses.com :-)

Aaron...no lens flare...that's the rope line in the background and since I was shooting at 2.8 it's blurred as it should be. Keep in mind they run a rope with steaks in the ground up each fairway to keep fans and stray employees/volunteers from wandering in the middle of play.

Here's another one where you can see the rope at about elbow height...
