an amazing idea Nik, kudos, although it is not quite finished yet... I'm trying to put my finger on what I'm missing, but I can't seem to grip it yet...

I'll think some more I love the concept
I agree, I mean the idea and the effort are awesome. But it seems like something's off. I think you can do better with the lighting (even if I couldn't =c) and I think on the organic side for the King and Queen I think it should be vegetable or a fruit instead of the bottles. Just my 2 копейки
I love the idea! But instead of doing electronics, I'd do processed foods. You know, strawberries - organic - vs a twinky or oreo... Just my thoughts. I dont' really see electronics as battling organic type foods.
But do this with processed food and some brighter lighting and I really think you have it! Awesome concept! Keep going!
This picture is a brilliant idea - the more I look at it the more I see. Very creative. The light may be slightly off - but it really draws me into the shot and makes me wnat to discover more. Brilliant. Now if you'll just share a few secrets about how to be half as creative as you then we'll all be better off

Back from your chambers already, your honor?
Thanks:-)
Yeah, I do have a gut feeling it's not ready.. Although I'm going to play more with it.. This is the first draft, just a scramble...
Let me know if you have some ideas:-)
Cheers, partner!
well I dont pick winners (even though I DID love the prune shot) but with this one, I actually really related to the whole 'real food even if having artificial ingredients' vs ' computer will feed you one day' concept
the chess board - who will win?
won me!
loved the whole thought behind it to be honest
was thinking more light but looked again and thought nope - whole concept fixated in my mind - my version at any rate
I actually wanted it to be dark. The lighting idea comes from the boxing ring: harsh light from zenith, strong fall off. I guess I didn't deliver this message...

The floppies/cheese chessboard was the key element of this design. It kinda dictated the electronics...
I agree that sushi vs hamburger would deliver a clearer battle message. Wanna try?

Well, batteries are some sort of energy source, as is food. You know, Matrix style..
I absolutely love this idea! I like the dramatic lighting and understand the boxing ring feel to it, but I agree that the sides are so busy that the falloff doesn't quite work yet.
But you have lots of time to tweak it. I'm looking forward to that!
It didn't take that long, actually. I came with the idea like an hour after Shay announced the themes. During the next day I decided on the technicalities and a set of components for pieces (bought them as well). The biggest issue was the cheesy squares, so I went to deli where a friend of mine works and ask him to cut me some Swiss exactly with the thickness of a floppy disk, which I brought with me and which he used as a sample.
Same Monday evening I made a basic setup and tried a few shots just to see if it works at all.
Finally, last night (Tuesday) I simply trimmed the cheese pieces to match the shape of the floppy exactly, and went on shooting. The rest was only a matter of pressing the button...

Yes, I think "busy" is the right word...
It's like they don't have to be there, yet they're needed to ensure this is a chess game.
You know what? Mebbe I should switch to checkers and use only batteries/strawberries (or some other paun-like veggies/fruits)
I'll give it a try tonight:-) And yes, I still have a few days left:-)
It lacks drama. Showing the game at the opening gets across the idea but doesn't tell much of a story. As it is, it comes across more as really neat diorama than a great photograph. I laughed when I got the idea, but there was nothing to really draw me into the shot. I know this problem personally because I am struggling with it in my own photography...

I must say, that is also highly irregular.
I'll think some more

I have a feeling I'm going to be hanging around this board much much more so... I better start getting in on the mix.
This idea is AWESOME - love it.
I too think something is slightly off - might be the lighting?
Yes, where do you find the time???
Thanks!

I could, I could... It's a hassle though, and it would kill my "inner child". I *wanted* the real cheese

Aside from that, it needs prespective correction.
