You took the words right out of my mouth Scott!!! If #1 were more technically good (focus, lighting), it would be my pick because of the interesting angle and context of the horse's mane. The baby blanket really distracts. #2 is much better technically, but no context. I don't know why she is looking out of the photo and what she is looking at. It's kind of strange to see a photo of a girl and not be sure why she is wearing a helmet...what sport does she participate in??? For some it's obvious, but not for all.

Not to pile on, but exactly my read as well.

Thanks every one! Sorry about those 239 who will be itching, and scratching. :D

The photos weren't posed. I was at a small horse show, and when I first saw her she was wrapped up in the blanket on top of the horse waiting for her turn in the riding ring.

When she heard the camera shutter she looked up to see what made the noise, and that's when that first photo was taken.

I did find the juxtaposition of a beautiful young lady with a siren look staring out from under a baby blanket at odds yet interesting.

Pilling on is ok. I see your points. Yes they are a little soft, i'm not sure why. Everything from Saturday seems a little soft? As to the helmet, and context after the fact it makes sense.

Here is how I first saw her.

well the 1st one definitely gives more context to the photo. If I saw the 2nd one I might not guess she rode horses

I like the expression in #2 more as well, but I'd like to see more context - in both frames at that. So.. um.. the second if you can't do a reshoot :D

Number 2 for me. The blanket made my decision, although I do like both shots.

    Vote
The first one has more of a story : the horse, the blanket the colours, the look on her face.
Personally, I love sharpness and high contrast so I like the second one. Simple, white, high contrast and sharper.

    #1 - but I also don't like the blanket....
#2 - is just looks overexposed rather than processed to give a certain "look and feel"

What about a little more sharpness in the eyes in #1 too?

Like I said, I choose what's behind door #3. Sam, this third image is the best of the group:
    • We have the horse for context
    • We have the blanket - and the way it's wrapped up, we know it's cold out.
    • Do I see snow?
    • The helmet lets us know that we have a person under the blanket
The only down-side on this image is the lack of a face, but I really don't think her face is needed to tell the story.

I prefer the comp in #1, but I wish the blanket had more natural colors. Nice shots!

I like #1 but as mentioned, the blanket distracts. How about #1 in a B&W conversion?? Lose the colors on the blanket and it will be less distracting.

The three as a set is your answer!!

Any possibility of cloning the horse from #1 into #2? That would give context, get rid of the blanket and let you use the sharper one.

If I have to choose, though, I vote for #1.

    Sweet captures, btw.

need to remember what you're selling
If you're selling the helmet the second one is a great product shot. if it's an interesting portrait you want then the first shot wins hands down.

The expressive face is more compelling than the high key exposure (which is really cool though) in #2.

I like seing the horse as part of the picture in the first one but she almost looks anoyed at having her picture taken in the first.
I like her expression better in the second but preferred the composition in the first.
So if I had to choose I would say #2

I like #1 for so many reasons and I like it better then #2 but the rubber ducky blanket just throws me for such a loop I feel it is to far out of context for this shot.
I know my spelling and grammar are poor some times my spell check says "I got nothing
