I had the lens, but sold it. The range is pretty good but on a 30D, it was never wide enough. The optics were so so and I didn't like the CA I got, and lastly it was slow. If you are looking for a walking around lens, then I'd consider a 17-50mm ish zoom lens like a Tamron 17-50 or a Sigma 17-70, or a Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS. -
Replacing my 17 - 85mm EFS IS
The first lens that I bought needs repair, and I have a whole league of basketball team photos to shoot next weekend. DavidTO very generously lent me his 17 - 55 f2.8 for the Glacier shootout, and I enjoyed using it. 17-40L or 50 f/1.4
Yeah yeah I know they are two different beasts. However, with one of those lenses I want to be shooting models and weddings. The 50mm lens is halfway there to the 17-40L and I would hate myself to find out that I should have saved my pennies for a couple of short months and bought the 17-40L instead. Opinions? -
