Re: Inside, the monster
I like the shot, here is what I see. A strong light source well off to the side on camera left and I suspect that was the only light source used here. Judging by the inconsistent shadows around the fingertips it looks like you might have tried to brighten the left side of the face in post. Also to me the skin tone is a bit… -
Re: Smart galleries busted again?
Thanks much for the update. I can see the image in the "smart gallery" now as well. Can the queue take days? I've had smart galleries sitting waiting to be populated over 24 & 48 hours in the past. However, that type of lag may have been fixed with a prior update. I suspect that as more users have begun to use the smart… -
Skin tone help needed
I've had a sudden rush of headshot requests (1 this week, 1 next week). These need a lot more attention to skin tones than I usually do, and I don't have a calibrated monitor. Set-up : tripod, fairly good daylight plus one flash and lightsphere, shot on Olympus Raw (WB set to 5500). For each sequence (same camera settings)… -
Photos merge in PTGui terrifically
PTGui is all right, almost. 27 shots (in landscape format) merged without any input from me. (Reshaped with some overlap to fit the page better) The picture is from the top of Bodie Mountain (10,150') near the ghost town of Bodie, CA. The town is low in the image at about 108 degrees. It was 10F and wind was gusting to 40… -
"One light stand" saga continues
I'm continuing to play with my "one light stand" (Sunpak 555, 10' stand, 48" brollybox, PocketWizard radio trigger, Sony 828). So far I shot: * one indoor "formal" event (anniversary) * one outdoor event (HS band concert) Today my youngest was participating in her middle school awards ceremony, of which I decided to try to… -

FS: Legendary Nikkor 200/f2 Ais ED-IF $1295
Nikkor 200/f2 Ais ED- IF Never thought I would be putting this gorgeous pice of glass up for sale, but my recent work requires an auto-focus alternative. This amazing lens is sharp wide open at f2 and bokeh is very pleasing. For those not familiar with this magnificent piece of glass, here is a link to an informative… -
LPS#7 Feedback Thread
This came in a PM today from urbanaries* In Hindsight. #63 Xia_Ke. The first time I looked at this image, I clutched my mouth. I have looked at it several times now and it haunts me more each time, brings me to tears. In fact I’m crying openly about it now as I write about it. I feel so much pain in this image, I find it… -
Old Journey - Brussels-Antwerp
I have just had digitized some old photos that my dad took on our trip to Europe in 1950. I put some of them under the Shots category, but maybe they go better here. I see that I haven't actually added much narrative, so I will try to do better. We went to Europe because my professor dad had two conferences to attend and… -
