Re: Lighting kit for a newbie
I too missed that you have a 580EX. As for where to go from there, it depends on what you want to do. If your primary goal is headshots or head and shoulders, triggering the 580 with an ST-E2 and using a reflector as fill works quite well. For that rig, I bring an umbrella, a 48" diameter white reflector, a holder for… -
Re: How to Handle Bad Eyes on a Gorgeous Woman?
I have online proof galleries that go up when I'm done with the pictures - I've never taken longer than two weeks on a portrait gallery (I had three shoots over the course of two weeks) and about five weeks on a wedding (I was out of two the two weeks immediately after). I've had galleries up within 48 hours of the shoot -… -
Re: >DSS #9: Dusk or Dawn Feedback Thread
So many great entries. These comps are getting more and more challenging! I love it! Thanks Peter, Llewellyn and Mark for the mention of my "Oats in the Morning". That really makes my day! I think I took about 75 shots. On the first day that my pnuemonia was some better I went out in freezing morning before sunrise to get… -
Re: Reflectors 101
It really depends on your budget. The 5-in-1 ebay reflectors will work; however, I haven't tried them so I can't speak to their construction. I've used both Photoflex and Lastolite Tri-grips. Both are good but I would recommend the Lastolite for the ease of use, especially if you are shooting AND holding the reflector. Its… -
A requested critic
I was asked, in another thread (link) to critic a gallery. Rather than hi-jack that thread, I started a new one.... General comments: * Flare - need to watch the position of the sun and make sure it's not hitting the front element of your lens. Did you have a filter on your lens - mixing such with the sun is usually not a… -

FS: Huge Canon Sale
Ending my changeover to Canon — All items purchased last month. Some items have never left the box. When the 1DMark III was announced, I decided to purchase it for my low light, high ISO gymnastics shooting. Last month, I ordered some Canon lenses in advance. The release date for the Mark III has been pushed back such that… -

Re: Portrait of My Brother
Michael, Really the techniques I use have come through education, and trial and error. The one I use to do this for Black & White, is very simple. First, SAVE the Original as a PSD file. This is very important, as PSD does not compress the image and therefore does not degrade the image when the file is opened and closed,… -
