Re: The " King Kong " Of Racing Ferrari's
Just did the read from Wiki covering the crash in 1955 and tons of other highly interesting details. What a tragic loss of life. I was amazed to find that these vehicles could do in excess of 190 mph and on roads not meant for such speed. And no seat belts. Gads. On and on the poor safety points go on. Its a beautiful car… -
Re: Light Painting Landscapes
We are all guilty to a point #1 was taken @ f7.1 for 30 seconds using ambient light and a flashlight over the waterfall area moving the flashlight in a circular motion as to not create a hot spot and make the light as even as I could. #2 was taken later in the shoot and I used a speed-light for more than the flashlight.… -

Re: second and third flash purchase question
Since you already have a 580exII that can act as a Master, your second flash could be a 430ExII, or one of the Sigma's that work with the EOS system, or even a manual flash if you were so inclined and don't need ETTL. The 580exII Guide # 190 is ~ 1 stop brighter than the 430exII Guide # 141 Be aware - the 430exII is not… -
Re: Abandoned house of sorrow
Wicked_Dark, really interesting series. I looked at the gallery! Did you get to the Springdale Mill on the MAss Rail Trail? Was thee yesterday for a few minutes. The road to the lot I mentioned is blocked bu it is an okay walk from the Thomas Street lot past the fire practice area and under Rt 190. About a 1.4 mile walk… -
Re: >>> SF#4 Finalists List - VOTE for Public Choice Award!!!
can I ask the LPS public one thing? if at all possible, hype up the grande finale with your friends in other forums, heck, even non dgrinners - bring in new blood! SF3 had 190 voters, SF4 only 150. I really hope this trend doesn't continue into the Grand Finale, especially with TWO big rounds of voting. -
Re: Italy for 2 weeks.
Manfrotto That's good to know gembobs. I count the 190 as a full sized tripod. It would definitely be easier to setup than taking a reverse folder travel angel out of the bag. I'm impressed that you had no problem carrying it in Venice. What types of shots did you find it most useful for? Were you doing architecture or… -
Re: "Lighting Lingo" Question
You can read about guide #'s here. A guide # of 100 at ISO 100 is not very strong. The Canon 580ex has a guide # of 190. The formula is {Guide Number/distance in feet} = fstop -- The shutter speed is assumed to be brief ( ~1/160th) and conveys no significant ambient light to the sensor. Thus, 100/ 8 feet = f 12.5 100/12… -
Re: Help spend my $200 - not on you ;-)
i love having access to a wider field of view than the 28-105 gave me (lovely lens on full frame, but it's not as useful on a crop body IMO) I'd sell the 28-105, the 28-90, and get a tamron 17-50 f/2.8 along with a flash, the canon 430ex is available used in the realm of 190 USD, and the tamron is ~300 USD, used.
