Re: Canon 7D vs 60D for sports
It is my understanding that the Canon 7D is never worse at autofocus than a Canon 60D, but it is often much better. In lower light the speed of autofocus acquisition slows down for the 7D, and that appears to be by design and to reduce autofocus (AF) error. There is even a vague mention of the AF slowdown in the 7D User… -
DSS 93: New to me
I have had to completely rebuild and reinvent my life this year. I got rid of almost everything I own to just start over. Thanks goodness. It's been a hell of a ride to boot! One of the things I did was start taking photography seriously. But I found that shooting digital was a little too fast paced for me, so I decided to… -
Re: Three special folks...
Thanks to all. I do feel like I have a treasure with these photos. Grandma Darlene kept saying that she wished she had a birthday gift for my birthday that is coming up... and I kept saying that I just felt so glad about the photos they let me take, that really no gift could compare. We had a great visit. To Scott- I flew… -
Re: Canon 7D high speed continuous shot problem
The things that can affect burst speed are: * Shutter speed, longer shutter speeds result in a slower burst rate. * High-ISO noise reduction, at the strong noise reduction setting it has a noticeable effect on the burst rate. * I think that the 7D has the ability to detect light flicker and implement a strategy to prevent… -

Re: Canon 50mm f/1.2L
All the math is theory--I'd expect actual lenses not to have aperture settings that are so precise. Does f/1.4 mean f/1.400? I doubt it--it could be f/1.41 or f/1.39 or anything else for that matter. Only the lens manufacturer knows for sure (and then there are manufacturing tolerances as well!) Then of course there's the… -
Re: Advise needed
I don't think that the Canon 5D MKIII has any sort of intrinsic wireless flash capability, either optical or radio wireless flash, so I think that if you want E-TTL you will want at the very least a Yongnuo ST-E2 wireless optical transmitter (commander/controller), which I believe that the Speedlite 600EX-RT can slave… -
Re: Sept. 11, 2001: In Memoriam
Mods, please don't move this, I completely agree, it should go in "people" to honor the 3,000 plus that lost their lives that day. Saturday night, on the History channel, they're showing "102 Minutes That Changed America" - it's literally 102 minutes of "civilian" camera footage, tourists, locals, anybody that day that… -
Routing issue/trouble connecting to smugmug
At the office today I was unable to connect to dgrin, my smugmug site or www.smugmug.com. I tried a couple of times over a few hours and didn't get anywhere. A few minutes ago, I noticed I was having no trouble at all. I tried it again through a VPN to my office--couldn't reach smugmug or dgrin. Here's a traceroute from my… -
ISO and flash range regardless of shutter speed
I built the table herewith for those who use the mesure unit meters – like everybody should in a more and more normalized world – and in inches for those who still use this old system. The values are from the Canon 20D manual page 93 and valid for the built in flash of this camera. I made this table because I read the…
