Your theme is: The Right Place & The Right Time Mini Challenge #98 begins June 30th, 2010 and ends July 15th, 2010 (noon Eastern Daylight Time). One of the many secrets of effective photography is being in the right place at the right time. This challenge is to post up to three examples of such pictures. I'm not looking… -
Re: RAW or JPG
Pathfinder, Thank you. I can remember Ruth said he was shooting RAW and JPG at the same time. This procedure is space consuming in the cards. But today, and because of this very thread I shot pictures in RAW and in JPG and here they are. I came to the conclusion that sometimes RAW is better and sometimes the other way… -
What's hot, what's not, and why?
In re-designing my new Smugmug I spent a lot of time looking at other people's designs. I saw all kinds of formats, of course, but it made me curious of what key aspects were most popular. So I went through the first 47 sites that are listed in the "Show Us Your New Smugmug" thread and tabulated the results in a… -
Re: Digitally Indecisive
Well, as far as Digital SLR's go, I started off with the D50 and the 18-55 kit lens, added a Promaster 70-300 for extra reach and was getting fairly decent shots, had it a couple years before I added more lenses, this year I added a used D1h for learning a Pro body, and an N90S for film to complement the N50 and 35-80 kit… -
Re: Coldclimb's Long (Long) Road to Moab
While driving north along the coast at one point, Kelsey spotted a bird sitting just off the road. We turned around and checked it out, and found some type of raptor hunched and hobbling around. He wasn't moving fast or really trying to get away from us at all, so we shared a few words and took some pictures. I've never… -
Re: Cartier-Bresson - Why Are These Great Photos?
HCB originals are lots less expensive than those of many other famous photographers because he made no attempt to limit the number of prints made from his negatives. He used a pro lab and didn't actually print himself. In the 70s it was still possible to order any of his images from the lab for < $100. So many of the… -
Routing issue/trouble connecting to smugmug
At the office today I was unable to connect to dgrin, my smugmug site or www.smugmug.com. I tried a couple of times over a few hours and didn't get anywhere. A few minutes ago, I noticed I was having no trouble at all. I tried it again through a VPN to my office--couldn't reach smugmug or dgrin. Here's a traceroute from my… -

Re: Owner view/ visitor view problem
That's the same thing people were saying to me when win95 came out about win3.1. And then they would ask me how to get their plug and play to work. Newer isn't always better, and older isn't necessarily worse. It's all in the setup. My 94 Accord won't take you in a straight line, but I'll eat you alive in the corners. I… -
Blue Highways to the Enchanted Highway 56k warning
A few threads down on this forum was a poster asking about travelling on Blue Highways. Blue highways are the smaller, less heavily travelled state and federal highways that are used mostly for local traffic, rather than the major interstate highways that always look very much alike at each exit, whether in California, or…
