Re: Vol De Nuit: Movie poster
Thanks, Sid! I got a few moon shots lately (that TCx1.4 really makes a nice add-on for the 100-400, especially with the pins taped), but the moon itself kinda does not change much, so I decided to add something. Planes (although we have a lot of them coming to LAX) did not want to cooperate, especially military ones (this… -
Re: Nikon D40 beginner portrait lenz?
For the money you cant beat the 50mm f/1.8 or "nifty fifty" as its called. I used that lens for shooting greyhound racing when i first started because of how fast it is and couldnt believe its ability. For around $130 you will be very happy and will really enjoy the lens. If you are shooting portraits seriously and want to… -
Re: Sensor Cleaning
About six months ago I was attempting to remove some stubborn dust spots on the sensor of my 40D. I used the blower and it did not remove them. I then used the wet wipes and as soon as I touched the sensor when it was in the lock up position the sensor collapsed and I had to get it repaired. I was under warranty and didn't… -
Re: Around School
Not sure how much is there to crop in the first without it just being a close-up of the young lady, but point taken. The second may benefit from a 1x1 crop. Knowing the kids (advantage of a 130-ish child school), the youngster in the second wasn't posing. She was actively getting some feedback on a writing project from the… -

At the Racetrack - Death Valley NP
Last weekend I took my two boys and went tent camping in Death Valley. It was freezing! (A nice balmy 4 deg F at twilight). I still prefer that to 130 deg F in the summer. Here are two of my favorite shots from this trip. Both were taken at the Racetrack. This is a dried-up lake bed where you sometimes find "moving rocks".… -
Unexpected Visitors
We had some unexpected visitors in town today. Four French Air Force Dassault Mirage 2000 Fighters dropped in for a visit. They were en route from Alaska to France with a stop to refuel in Bangor, Maine. Shortly after taking off from Bangor this morning one of the fighters developed a problem with their hydraulic systems… -

Re: How long to shoot 47 individual people?
I've gotten roped into this sort of thing a few times and can give a bit of advice. Refuse to do this unless you will have the assistance of at least two other parents. The only way this works is if you have these other helpers getting the kids lined up and the next kid ready to have the portrait taken. If you are wasting… -
Re: Site Speed???
I've been trying to do some work on my site over the last week or so, and it seems to be running a LOT slower than it normally does. www.mekphotography.com, PC-XP, home, Wireless-N with gigabit routers, Comcast cable ISP. Wireless connection speed is between 117-130 MBPS, internet speeds are as tested:…
