This is an artifact of how the data is displayed on your monitor, and has nothing to do with how the image will look in print. Even ratios, 100%, 50% or even 200% will look much sharper and smoother than images displayed at 33% or 66% or 133% on your video monitor. Even iPhoto images look better at some sizes than others… -

Well if you don't want to purchase Lightroom 1.0, I guess you'll have to download the 30 day trial here:- http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/ and use it to make whatever changes you need to your images. In Kelby's book on PS for the Digital Photgrapher he suggested recording an action to enlarge your image 10% which I did in PS 7 - so to enlarge an image I just press whatever Keystroke I recorded and bam bam bam 110% 121% 133% 147% - whatever until you have the enlargement you need .
