Re: Finally D-E1-cided
I didn't go for the battery grip. Coming from a digicam, I found the E-1 big enough as it as, and adding the battery grip added too much for me. I haven't ruled it out as a future option, but that grip doesn't come cheap... Actual images from the E-1 is what sold me in the end. I always liked the E-1, but was scared away… -
Re: If you had £3000-$4500 to spend, what would you get?
Good photographers use theset up's mentioned above......once they start making money then they of course, if shooting canon go to the to the "L" lenses - I am not fdamiliar with what canon offers but think all the top pro lenses are "L" lenses .....with nikon it is just the top line fast lenses...some of both camps do… -
Re: Portable Power for Studio Flashes?
Like Ian said, the Vagabond system from AlienBees should work with any delicate electronics. You should contact Norman for some input to make sure that your lights "will" work on an inverter. Some older lights and packs will not, but most newer units will. The caveat is the power supply in the lights must be tolerant to… -
Re: Lens sizes agaga - filtering systems?
Well I read through all that, do I get a cookie? It'd be nice since I'm feeling the pain on this one too, my story is that I started at 67mm (17-85), then I got a 58mm (sigma 70-300), then a 52 (nifty 50), now a 72mm (sigma 150 macro), and a 77mm (10-22mm). I still haven't got the courage (or the recovered bank account) to… -
Re: Smugmug performance question
We heard this about two months ago, that PBase was slower, so we carefully graphed the response times from 18 locations around the world, as far away as Helsinki and Paris and as nearby as San Jose and San Diego. We graphed a random pbase gallery with a random smugmug gallery, every 5 minutes, 24 hours a day, for a week.… -
Re: online sales resource for photographers
Ok This has been racking my brain for like 2 weeks Been w/ SM for couple years -- love em for everything but event photography, coupons and packages. Didn't matter to me in the past but I have several opportunities to shoot events of around 150 or so subjects and I have about 20 seniors in wanting me to do their Senior… -
Re: Report Your Vista and Photo App Compatibility Experience Here
I had to dive into my bios to kill RealTek, but it is gone and everything is running well on Vista :ivar I only had to download drivers from Nvidia (for dual monitor support) and upgrade iTunes. Everything else moved over seemlessly Vista Observations: take the pre-configuration tool seriously. If you have anything showing… -
Re: Are all images rescaled to 72dpi?
72 dpi is not something that is used for web display. Browsers just deal in pixels. Give them a 640x480 pixel image and they dump it onto the screen as a 640x480 pixel image. Give them a 1024x768 image and they dump it on the screen as the same. Let me try to explain what happens at Smugmug. When you upload an original… -
Re: Advice please
No idea how this Sigma compares with the other Sigma long zooms, but I recently lent my 100 -400 to a fellow Canon snapper and he (almost immediately) said he could see the difference (better) IQ on the cam lcd compared with his Sigma (150 -500 iirc) He also said the Canon's AF was quicker etc. All I can say is he's now… -
Re: Tripod
I have never found one tripod to do everything.... "Everything" for me is supporting a Canon 400mm f/5.6L lens on a Manfrotto 3421 Gimbal Mount as well as being light enough to hump across country on hikes but, stable enough for use in high winds. I have used two tripods to cover these needs. My previous pair were an older…
