Re: Big or little when going to Switzerland?
My base travel kit for a Canon crop 1.6x/APS-C body, and I also have a 7D, is: Canon EF-S 17-55mm, f/2.8 IS USM Canon EF 70-200mm, f/4L IS USM The 17-55mm zoom is much more appropriate than 24-70mm, especially for general "landscape" work. If you see a "vista" landscape scene or have a limited vantage, like in a smaller… -
Re: Upcoming Lightbox Changes
OK, I took a look at the new lightbox and the new CSS. Looks like I'll be able to get rid of some of my customizations. You've made them standard. Nice. But there's a bug or two involving scroll bars ... In the organizer lightbox view, try selecting a display copy size larger than the monitor so that the horizontal scroll… -

SmugMug partay December 7th!
I've been poring over a spreadsheet of customers near our humble building in Mountain View, wondering how to pare it down so the fire marshall doesn't haul me away during the party. Do we exclude Smuggers north of Los Altos? South of Sunnyvale? :doh The Countess of Cash finally rescued me by suggesting I post the invites… -
Re: 3 Rug Rats and 3 Lenses
Having had a look again at the originals, the second is out of focus, but as I said, it is sharp on the 8 x 10 print I have. The first one of my daughter is as sharp as it gets with this lens, also it was taken at ISO 800 which adds to the softness. Being new to Digital, my old gear was Canon with FD L lenses and a Pentax… -
Re: >>> DSS Challenge #5 (Primary or Pastel): Feedback Thread
Okay, I'll play too... My top picks (fwiw) (in no particular order) ---- 1. #9 Luscious. Great composition and execution. Screams of primary and pastel. Fun shot! 2. #13 Testarossa. Lovely concept, lighting and execution. Beautiful! 3. #20 Jumping through hoops Another neatly executed shot - different and colorful. 4. #23… -
Re: New image sizes?
I'm amazed the file sizes are that big with the metadata. I took an image I have locally, one with the metadata that I put in it (which includes the tag, comment, author, copyright, and all the EXIF data). The file is 2,974,665 bytes in size according to Vista. I then made a copy of the image and used Vista's "Remove… -
Re: New Camera
Zoom lenses with extreme ranges have a tremendous convenience factor, but when you say, "Overall image quality is more important to me than anything.", then you really should go with a multiple zoom system. You will blow your $700 budget but if image quality really is your concern then you need to increase your budget.…
