Re: Shadow/Highlights tech question
More on using S/H on the L channel Thanks for pointing this out Rutt. I knew that it was better to do operations like S/H on the L channel, but until I just found and reread pages 146-148 in Dan's book, I didn't really know why. I've read those pages before, but it didn't stick until now. To summarize it for others reading… -
Mini Challenge #148 - "Cars" Results
Another Mini in the books. Lots of fine shots. I Downloaded all the shots to my computer, placed them in a folder, and ran through them, really, without knowing who did what. (except for those with watermarks) I ran through them a few times, eliminating a few here and a few there. I got it down from about 65 to 15. These… -
Weekly Assignment #148: Your Worst Nightmare 2010
We did this in 2008 (#96: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=109908). I promised to get back to it in a year, but the job (or, more specifically, the lack of thereof ;-) interfered and we never had a chance to revisit it. Now, that we're back in business, I think it's time to try it again, i.e. get a year-old image you… -
Canon service questions Re 100/2.8 macro err99 msg
Yet another err99 question.... I'm pretty sure the aperture blades are stuck on my 100/2.8 macro. If not, I've at least narrowed it down to this particular lens and not a body. I don't get the err99 with any other lens, flash, mem card, battery, etc combo. The lens works fine wide open, but throws the err99 if the ap is on… -

Re: Digital Darkroom Assignment for the Week: 5/14-5/21
Emboss Blending Layer This is my first posting. I love using photoshop blending layers, as it let's you try things without permanently changing the original. In the photo below, I used a number of blending layers which I will briefly highlight. The original (slide) image is of 3 family pets taken about 27-28 years ago. I… -

Re: Best Grand Canyon North Rim Sunrise ?
N. Rim Grand Canyon morning shots You won't go wrong at either Cape Royal, where you get a rare glimpse of the Colorado River, or Point Imperial, the highest viewpoint in the park. Keep in mind that both are out on winding roads that take a while to drive. If you want to be out there at dawn you need to leave in the dark.… -
Severe performance problems showing images using custom sizes
I've noticed what I would consider to be severe performance problems viewing my site over the past few days. I can't tell you exacty when this started, but I believe it was a recent change. I see the same problem from my work computer, running IE7 and Firefox 3.x (sorry, don't know exact version, and I'm at home now) on…
