Re: Richard visits Chicago
Maybe they don't leak! I remember getting a tour of the sub-basement and HVAC installation at the Skelly Oil Building in Tulsa OK. That was in about 1961 or 62 when the building was new and an aunt of mine was Secretary to one of the Vice Presidents. The guy that guided us through that part told us that they used more… -
Re: Horned Puffin
What a stunning photo! Congrats! (I was wondering about the fish too, and found this on an Audubon site: "Puffins can carry several fish back to their nest at a time.* The average catch is around 10 fish per trip but the record in Maine is a whopping 62 fish at once!* The puffin’s beak is specialized to hold all these… -
Re: along hwy 27 in east tn
Wartburg is 70 miles from Tremont Campgrounds if one cuts crosscountry through Oak Ridge. I may try it as a day trip earlier in the week before we get together that weekend. I may be able to find some other interesting shots like some old barns, etc. by cutting crosscountry using Hwy 162 and Hwy 62 so it would probably be… -
Re: Best way to reduce image dimensions in PS?
Yes, that certainly is very dry reading! And I'm not sure what the conclusion is! I guess I was just kinda wondering, seeing as how we have to throw pixels away when downsizing, whether there's any advantage in throwing out (say) every second one (reducing by exactly 50%), rather than reducing by 54%, or 62%, or some other… -

61) I woke up early for sunrise in Bishkek. I love getting up early and walking around when it's quiet. Not even the drunks are up at 7am. 62) Plants like these produce hot water, heat and electricity for the city. They are all coal-powered so by late morning in winter the entire city is enveloped in smog. 63) Strong winds… -

The family's new addition: Yashica Mat LM
My new (to me) Yashica Mat LM Got this at an antique shop for cheap. It was from a collector's lot of 20 cameras. Most had been bought by a one person but this was left with a kodak duaflex, a brownie and another kodak from I believe the 1940's. This is a 1958 model (at least what the shop owner had listed, this model made… -

Re: My first bifs
Thanks Ric I really need a longer lens but am undecided whether to go with a fixed 300mm or some combination of variable plus teleconverter. This lens was the kit lens that came with the camera. I should have bought the body alone and researched a separate lens purchase. I was quite close to these birds, in fact most of… -
