A good dilemma concerning super telephoto
I have a problem. One that I very rarely find myself in. I have some money coming to me that I wish to use. It is more of a reward to myself for becoming relatively debt free. The good thing is that this purchase will not cause me to incur debt... So here it goes. After getting a taste of what good lenses can do ie. fast… -
Tips for shooting youth sports
I realize this is pretty basic for the average professional and even for some advanced enthusiasts, but I thought I'd give some tips for anyone that could benefit from reading this. Keep in mind that I shoot baseball, but most of these can be applied to any sport :) 1. In sun, face should be all sunlight or all shade.… -
Re: flash in daylight
You did great Antonio!! I could not have said it any better!! Elaine, The trick to control the exposure of the background is to shoot in Manual Mode on the camera. This allows you to underexpose the background however you choose. Look through your viewfinder in Manual Mode, and dial back the exposure with the light meter… -
Re: new year, new innovations? what's next?
It's only January 12, where I live anyway. Plenty of year left for lots of new and expensive stuff. I'm personally hoping for the new 64 gigabyte imaging chips which fit the new quantum worm-hole lenses. These contraptions can photograph a gnat from two miles away, and then zoom back to encompass the equivalent of a 3mm… -
Re: good PAS
There is a fairly nice table of sortable shutter-lag comparisons here: http://www.cameras.co.uk/html/shutter-lag-comparisons.cfm?sort=Camera While it is not as complete or current as I would like, it is sufficient to draw some conclusions and it is based on their own tests which take into account the multiple variables… -
Re: Karin and Kris - e-session (C&C)
Well, this shoot is at least a three-bagger, if not a home-run! Well done! I'm looking these on a non-calibrated work monitor, so can't really talk to color too much. * Love the pose. Burn down his left shoulder and you're done. * This is just so successful in getting out there the feelings they have for each other. What's… -
Re: Noob new camera purchase questions in jump from P&S to DSLR
That is the general concept. Newer AF lenses from most manufacturers will communicate all the critical information with the camera CPU. Certainly all the lenses designed for DLSRs will. Moving backwards from there it gets complicated. How much information is communicated between lenses and the camera cpu depends on how much… -
Re: Harry I need your help
Jeff, I have that lens. Other than the less used 70-200L, I basically have two lenses I use all the time. The 300 Prime and the 17-40 L......... I bought them in February, or there abouts. I also bought the 1.4 extender, and have since purchased the 2 Xs extender. If you think about the 2 Xs, be aware that you do lose your… -
Re: 500mm lens
Ken Rockwell has some valuable information specific to the Nikon D5000 and focus settings. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d5000/af-settings.htm The D5000 does have a focus confirmation capability, useful for manual focus lenses. Use the page above to guide you in setting the camera to "M" focus mode. Now your camera… -
Re: External Microphone and Lens Upgrade
It's very important to mention how you will use the equipment that you ask advice about. For example, the Canon EF-S 55-250mm, f4.0-5.6 IS is a very inexpensive tele-zoom lens. While the optics are actually pretty good, especially if you stop it down a bit, the AF motor is relatively slow and sometimes the AF is inaccurate…
