Re: Lens Test
When I test a new lens I often choose a few different subjects for comparison: 1) A brick wall, shot straight on and squared with, using a tripod. This is a pretty good test for front-focus, back-focus, field curvature and vignetting issues. If a camera/lens combination does not focus accurately in this test, something… -
A Trip to get Pumpkins!
It has been a long time since I have posted here and almost as long since I have snapped a photo. I finally got back out and into the groove this weekend. My girlfriend, her friend, her friend's boyfriend and I decided to get together on a "double date" and go pick some pumpkins. We met up at a local college and drove an… -
A Trial of a Tamron 200-500mm lens
I have been looking for a smaller, lighter lens with a zoom range from tele to long tele and the Tamron SP200-500 f5.6-6.3 Di LD (IF) seemed ideal. I have had good luck with most of Tamron's Di series of lenses - this lens is suitable for APS or full frame cameras. It does not have IS, of course, but it only weighs 2.7… -
Re: Nazee, top 6
I think these show you are still experimenting, which is just fine. For me, there's more happening between the model and the camera here then I've seen in some other series of yours. Also, I can see that you are trying ideas for lighting the face, from the hard edge extrovert highlights to the lower contrast introvert. For… -
Re: focus issue for my canon 7d and lens 70-200,2.8ll
1) Basic AF accuracy is best accomplished using a flat target, i.e. a brick wall or other large textured surface. If a camera/lens cannot accomplish this task, it has no chance of passing any subsequent AF tests including real world use. Make sure that the target is at the typical distance for your normal use of the lens,… -
Re: Learning the 85F1.2.....
Have you found it to be tonally neutral? Your shots are great. The owner of the studio I work for has this chunk of glass but rarely uses it for portraits. He uses the 28-70 f2.8 L mostly because of the versatility and speed of changing from 3/4 to full body. I have seen some commercial work he has done with the 1.2 lens… -
Re: Kristin and Dave e-session
Ha! I was wondering a bit too! With all the "do I suck" threads going on around here I was wondering if I was getting cold shouldered. Not that I think I'm all that, but I don't think these suck and I'm glad you guys agree. This couple was SUPER stiff... I really struggled posing them. I'm not a great poser to start with… -
Re: Kolob overlook & some wildflowers
Aaron, your back story had me laughing. Other family members, ah yes, I like your solution to the problem and how you converted your energy to a very productive day. Some thoughts about the shots: 1. This is a lovely shot. I like the foreground, and the sepia-esque tone, and the view. Only bugaboo is the little white cloud… -
Re: Better glass or a new body?
I have a 5D and a bunch of lenses, including the 24-105, 50/1.4, 100/2.8 macro, and 135/2L. I don't have any of the 70-200 variants because for the way I work they are too large. I am always a little hesitant to give lens advice because the way I work is a bit uncommon. I use fast primes for people photography and slow… -
Re: The 50D?
Jeff, As requested, here are some test shots taken with the EF 50mm f/1.4 - except as noted, all were taken at ISO 100, f/1.4 using the center focus point on Canon 50D. Also, to see the "Orignial" sized images, just click on the photo. 1. Shot about 15 feet from the fence (this being a good distance for 3/4 or full-length…
