Re: Need help choosing a camera for merchandise photography
For the best, most accurate, color rendition of products I highly recommend using electronic flash as the light source. Flash has the most complete color spectrum of any of the more common light sources. Most electronic flash can also be adjusted for output, making it easier to control lighting ratios. Daylight florescent… -
Re: Digitally Indecisive
By the way, the difference between 10 and 12 megapixels is pretty marginal, I was quite happy printing 12" by 18" with a rebel XTs 8 megapixel, and even the odd 2' by 3' poster. If you want to see more detail in larger prints than these, even 12 megapixels might not quite cut it, prepare your wallet for a 1Ds series or… -
Re: Marc Muench - SmugMug Artist-in-Residence
Tom Dietrich, our scanner operator and alias "Pixel Pusher" will be posting here on dgrin soon He graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography back in the day and still loves photographpy, so with luck I can drag him into the world of forums We have been messing around with our scanning workflow for 10 years now and just… -
Re: newbie's head is a spinnin'! What to buy
Thanks. Your lighting will probably be easier than what I usualy deal with. No flash in those at all (I have yet to purchase one. After glass comes a 580)--part of why I chose a 20D. About 98% of those shots were at ISO3200; the first day at that even was RAW...then I noticed how fast I was filling up my PD70X, and… -
Re: Staring out to sea
Thanks for the advice and i love what you've done with the photo, My cell phones a Nokia N95 8GB with 5 mega pixel camera although i think the stored image sizes was 980kb its such a pity as ive mostly always got my fuji finepix camera with me except on this occassion, id like to print it out 10 x 8 inch size but doubt the… -
Re: RAW in Photoshop CS
I've spent most of my computer time on a mac. I am a BIG fan. But there is no clear answer as to which is a better, a mac or a PC. The macs start at a higher price point (there is no equivalent to the $400 PC), but compare well to similarly equipped wintel machines. I was forced to spend some time with a wretched wintel… -
Re: Another lens suggestion
Brandon, Both are good lenses, but the 70-200 F2.8's are pretty much in a class of their own. These are probably the best performing zooms available. Extremely highly rated and user feedback is outstanding. Fast, sharp and great bokeh. As mentioned, you can add a 1.4TC to make it a 98-280mm F4. Still fast and it gives you… -
Re: Quality of prints
Hi Kathy, Wow, you have some great shots in that gallery. Brings back memories of when I wanted to ride rodeo. Here are a few things that come to mind that will help: 1. Currently, your photo is using the Adobe 98 color space, which will make your shot look washed out both during display of your photos on the web and when… -
Re: What do you think about Olympus 4/3 camera?
I've run into those types of people in the real world, as well as in online forums. Forums trolls are easier to deal with since all I have to do is post some pics I've taken to prove the system is capable. The real world is harder, but those people don't take their cameras out of auto 98% of the time anyway. I just ignore… -
Re: My First Message - New To Forum
First welcome to the addiction -see you at the weekly support meetings :D To answer your flash question: I've used a diffused 430EX, an MT-24, and then I bought an MR-14EX (in that order). You can use the 430 EX, but I've never been impressed with the quality of the light that it produces. The MT-24 will give you greater…
