I asked early on if I made a change to the SM footer, would changes occur to my customization.
I'm glad now that I did not touch it, since others are finding out the hard way it seems!
So again, ... how can anyone be sure that their customizations want be overwritten?
Michael
Hi Michael,
The Easy Customizer works with the Advanced Customizations fields in the following ways:
Page Title: Easy Customizer will overwrite the value in this field.
Background Color (Theme color): Easy Customizer will overwrite the value in this field.
CSS: Easy Customizer will not touch this field. The CSS generated with the Easy Customizer will placed BEFORE your own custom CSS so it should cascade properly. However, EZC CSS still may override (in terms of how the browser displays your page) your own CSS if there is overlap and depending on how your CSS is written. You should always beable to override the Easy Custoimizer CSS by using the "!important" CSS declaration.
Top javascript: EZC will not touch this field.
Head Tag: EZC will not touch this field.
Body Tag: EZC will not touch this field.
Display SmugMug Header: EZC will overwrite the value in this field.
Custom Header: EZC will not touch this field. Your custom header will be displayed below your EZC custom header.
Display SmugMug Footer: EZC will overwrite the value in this field.
Custom Footer: EZC will not touch this field. Your custom footer will be displayed below your EZC custom footer.
QUESTION: If I set a new banner, it appears in Preview above the old banner. If I publish, does it get rid of the old banner, or do I have to go back into my customization page and remove the old coding? I'm hesitant to "experiment" and then loose things (although I did copy my coding in a backup file)
The Easy Customizer will not touch the custom header you have in the Advanced Site Customization settings.
If you publish, it will be displayed as it is in the preview. If you only want the Easy Customizer banner, I would suggest removing the appropriate customizations from the Advanced Customization tool. Be sure you back up first just in case!
If you publish, it will be displayed as it is in the preview. ... FYI, same thing applies for the custom footer.
Here's my confusion: eliminating the Smug footer eliminates the RSS feeds link as well as my custom copyright statement in the EZC preview. I'd love to know if I can get rid of the Smug branding links in the footer while keeping RSS and my copyright statement. Preview says no, two statements above seem conflicting, I'm too scared to push the button... :uhoh

Brian's gonna make a choice to allow the nuking of the footer but keeping the feeds. Stay tuned and don't be scared, you can always revert
Being quite honest, ... I'm still a bit scared to hit that button too!
Sure, there is a EZ "start over again" button, but if I want to get rid of the SM footer, then things get changed with my customization that I don't want, I simply click on that "start over again" button, and I'm back to square one.
I had to close safari and reopen - now it seems the only way to log back into my account is thru the smugmug home page !!??
not good at all - what am I missing??
First of all, don't worry. Go and nuke your easy customizing and you'll be fine. Yes, if you remove the Smuggy footer, you'll need to login and out from www.smugmug.com.

OK - so I nuked the settings and I got the attached (yikes - again!!)
EDIT: to remove the header, full footer and return the mini footer should do it...
again what am I missing...I tried numerous settings again to correct the 'nuked' back to square one version method: remove header, change texts color and remove full footer (which was never part of my original version??!!) etc and most of my internal gallery pages were all messed up (mostly color of text)

I'm getting scared :cry
help!!
Now I think I've tried every possible combination to return to original version to no avail - have 'nuked' the EZC settings 5-6 times still have the header and full footer - to remove them causes multiple errors within my galleries and the text coloring...:cry :cry
please see image in post # 74
any ideas??
thanks,

I love the fact that I can build my nav bar in this.
Is it possible to add one more "canned" link to the Navigation Bar Builder? If I use this tool, I don't see a way to include the Login/Logout links in the nav bar without including both, which would be confusing. Maybe there could be a smart option that can tell whether you're logged in or not, and display the right verb for the link text?

It looks like you have the banner image hard coded in the header section, that's why it remains.
If you want to add it using the customizer, remove it from the header section and use the customizer tools to add it back
You have the 'default' theme in the control panel set to 'Gradient Grey', your homepage is set to 'Gradient White' and the galleries have their own themes.
I suggest using only the default theme in the control panel, then use the customizer to make the needed changes.
Use the customizer to get the basic look you are needing. If you require a touch more customization, then use the 'Advanced Site-wide Customization' to fine tune as needed.
Thanks a bunch Aaron. That is all that I was wanting to know!
It's a nice thing that SM is doing, ... still, ... I'll continue to wait a while before using any EZC since it seems a lot of you are having some confusing problems with it.
I'd just like to say thanks for this. I'll fiddle.
Edit: Nice. The branding removal is great - I'd much rather build in a "shipping info" page to mention what the packaging will look like then have text at the bottom (or, god forbid, top).
Thanks a bunch Aaron. That is all that I was wanting to know!

Folks, please do read carefully my post #1 of this thread. And remember who this is designed for
If you have extensive customizing already in place it's probably not for you.

Rich,
Thanks for your reply, however it's way over my head!!
ex: banner hardcoded??? I want my banner just get rid of the smugmug header and full footer...
Andy had set my homepage to Gradient White some time ago - which was/is great - I just don't know how to do most of what you're telling me - now it sounds like I have to start all over just to return to original version and use the EZC on every page, gallery , etc... :cry
But the question remains: when I nuked the very minor changes I had tried - now I don't want to use the customizer for anything(!) orig plan was to just remove footer , when the result of that was the inability to log in without using smugmug home page (like anyone would opt for that!)
All kinds of mayhem insued - I must admit my frame of mind is way off now - what should have been a few minutes of testing is now a stay ay home allnite and relearn bunches of customizing code :cry :cry
Please isn't there an easy way to just go back where I was ??
We're gonna look at your code, Rich - but did you follow my instructions and save copies of everything?
EDIT: I'm looking at your site, specifically and exactly, what are the issues?
OK - I just went in to advanced site wide cust. and looked over the settings and only changed background color from viewer controlled (which I've NEVER offered) to light then hit update and now all is back to normal??!!??!! All is OK again!!??!!
I dare to assume somebody at your end also did something?
Re: saving my code - no I didn't as I didn't realize/plan on touching anything in site wide settings - was that a mistake?
any how did you guys save me? or did my change do it?
Folks. Keep copies of your code from your site wide customizing page. It takes 30seconds to copy paste to a txt file. Do it now, it's just smart practice.
And please, please, please, all- read carefully my post#1 of this thread.
Wow this is an awesome update! Granted I'm going to have my site customized by David in the upcoming weeks because I want to take it to that *next* level, but it's really quite awesome what you've opened up by creating this easy customizer!
I also really like that we can upload a favicon for our site to use now, NICE.
I am so happy right now.. SO happy!! I SmugMug to pieces.
Click... click....click and voila.. my smug matches my main site.
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY
You guys do all the hard work... all I have to do is take pictures. *falls over from pure excitement*

Is they any plan for this to save to different custom Themes?
I personally like to have a little bit of global settings, and then themes for changing the appearance. Then I can have a light and dark themes for different galleries.
When you used the "Start Over" feature what previous customizations did you lose? As for that strange message your are seeing, it looks like you may have uncovered a bug. I can't reproduce it but I have a good idea what's happening and a fix is already in progress. By the way, what browser are you using?
As of right now, this is the only way to remove the easy customizations.
We'll get these issues ironed out!
Thanks!

Hello Brian,
I use I.E. 8.0. I will post the lost customazition later today.
Easy Customizer ....
Dearest Smugmug Family & Staff,
As some may have noticed, my posts here in DGrins have been 911 calls to save me from myself. CSS/HTML is a phase in life that has swept me by, leaving me to create a world of broken beginnings and endings while never understanding the concept of this little guy {. Even with help, I still find a way to float away from the reality of understanding. There is nothing worse then the air I feel within the cavity of my head.
The seaonsed soldiers in this forum have stood the test of time. Post after post of the same question do they adhere too, knowing there is a previous thread from just hours earlier relating to that very topic (I take the 5th!). Never have I read about them complaining. They have rescued many Smugmuggers while showing only the kindest attitude even when I'm sure they were at their wits end.
I am anxious about future package deals that are being worked on but when I opened my site yesterday to attempt once more at getting my act together, seeing the creation of The Easy Customizer immediantly sent me into a blissful feeling of completeness. I feel the air within my head cavity slowlly decompressing. (I hope that's a good thing?)
As I step from the thank you podeum, I hope you can feel and see the applauds that are coming your way. Do not take them lightly. You guys really are heros for the frantic 911 callers as myself. Take a bow ... Job well done!! Hip-Hip-Hooray! Hip-Hip-Hooray! Hip-Hip-Hooray!

How about this situation...
Currently in my footer (on all pages) I have:
1- my copyright info
2- 'made on an iMac' gif
3- statcounter display
I want to keep ALL of these items but remove just the mini-smug footer
how to accomplish this? - or wait for the update you mentioned...
thanks,

Andy said it's coming soon to the Advanced Customization menu, but for now I'm just using
#footer {display: none !important;}
so I can still have access to my feeds link without the headaches associated with the "easy" version.
