She was there just standing in front of us, very quiet, saying nothing, (I couldn't understand could I ? ), looking at the window outside, waiting while his dad was talking to clients.
I turned around her and I took some, say 5, 6 shots ?
i think you understand that, i might be blunt in my comments,
but i never intend to beat the hell out of a shot just to do it.
i try to explain why or what something feels wrong,
so i hope it is somewhat constructive
but of course i understand that, as you say: "I agree with some while I don't with others" sure will! my first post will probably be in the Other Cool Shots section,
because there will be differently in subjects, not only portaits.
you are invited to come beat at them
you are right and you are wrong...
i do snap a shot every now and then, but i dont play games.
thank you antonio, i will keep an eye on this thread!
edit: oh... i prefer 17a over 17b, the muted colloring suits the mood/expression much better i think
16 = verry sweet and cute shot=)
Tortilla. Yes I do understand you man. I am one of those. Say almost everything that comes to your mind. Be careful. It's not easy and doesn't make things easier for you. Be aware... I know by experience.
Good perspective: to be constructive. But you could be gentler and say the same thing. Wrapped in honey everybody would agree.
In Portugal - have you been here ? - we have a saying and it goes more or less like this:
"You won't get flies with vinegar."
I will go and beat - constructively speaking - your shots if I see them.
Anyway, many people are wishing to do so. I think. What you said about the cars and girls was rather heavy...
Oh I see now. A sudden light flashed in my brain (that happens sometimes)
Clearly as water: you are latin. Tortilla, you like eggs, bacon, you are impulsive... latin in a word:D
So am I man.
Torture I am not getting the point ...
I am Portuguese - I was saying so the other day - for I don't know how any generations.:D
You never play games ? Well, you should ! It's pretty fun. Don't be too serious. Life are two days. I am already on the last quarter of the second one. :cry
Why this picture is not so good as I expected ?
I have a droplet to make the canvas and all that stuff like the name and so.
I have cropped the picture very much and it came out with a huge name and a too large canvas.
I don't feel - at least now - to do it again because of this problem.
Any tips to modify that Action / Droplet thing ?
Sorry.
Beautiful set of pictures. The one above grabs me the most. Somewhere in all of my reading, I picked up the tidbit that a square photo conveys a sense of stability. For me, when I look at this guy, it looks like he's been making those chairs for years. His workshop, the tools, etc. I think the reason it works for me (colors, tones, and all else aside) is that the notion that this guy has been making these chairs for years fits very nicely with the stability conveyed in a square frame.
In fact you are right. The man has been doing that work for quite some time now. He learned from his father who I also photographed that morning.
Here is an image of his father working.
I have been looking at your pictures and they are all very nice and well done.
I saw those of your wife:D You have there good shots which - cropped as square ( only one is at the moment ) - could be posted here to add value to this thread.
I greatly appreciate your compliment. Someday soon, I'll get more posted up on these forums. But mine would pale in comparison if I posted them here in this thread.
Richard for posting your version of the shot. Ivar for the comment.
About the background:
As excuse I can say that me - as anyone else I think - the more I shoot the better I do it.
In fact I didn't pay much attention to the background then :cry but now, these days, I do.
In the image I post here I tried to apply blur in the background and make it a B&W at the same time.
Hope you like it. If you don't feel free to criticize.
I almost forgot to tell you: While I was shooting this picture the man was very quiet looking at me while I was around him making several shots.
He is a Jain and I think he is flattered in spite of saying nothing. I tried to tip him with a coin which he didn't accept.
The light was terribly harsh but we were on the shadow. At the time I must confess I didn't read the light as I should that's why his face was rather underexposed. I should have got a compromise between the light in the background and the one in his face but I couldn't remember or do it at the moment.
May be I should have moved to a place where the background had more shadows, giving a better balance to the image.
Soon, I'll try again.

I love it.

He commented that it was too harsh. Could be, but I thought the original could have used a little more pop.
