Yes, you've done it right now. Once you have 25 people liking your page, you can then personalise the URL for it, as I have done for mine http://www.facebook.com/KathiesPhotos.
If people are switched to their page and not their personal profile and like your page, their 'likes' don't count numerically although they can see all your updates on their page wall, rather than their personal profile wall. Nothing wrong with this - some prefer to keep business and personal separate (as I do), however it will help you to understand how the 'like' count works.
My photo contest is going well. I am up to 499 fans, from 179. I try to friend each new fan and thank them publically on their wall for becoming a fan, and provide a link in there, so hopefully my fan profile image will show up *glamor shot* and all their friends will have an easy link to find it.
So far I have been contacted by 5 different people about doing pictures, hopefully they follow through.
Ive been using the fan page and facebook more like a blog, keeping fresh material on there. I am terrible at blogging, although now that Im getting some senior portriats, I really should update it so they can view large images easily.

I just liked everyone for the full 9 pages. I'm excited to look through all your pages and see what's out there. I haven't set mine up yet, but plan to soon and I hope everyone will return the favor . I'm attending a Fred Pryor seminar here in Dec on using Social Media to market your business and next weekend a two day seminar on getting a photography business off the ground. Once I do those I plan to put my page together and hopefully get going with a photography business . I'm excited.
