Nice ....do you got cheese ?:ivar ( here comes the French connection )
Denise as always you have great insight and I appreciate your thoughts. I will work on these things later. Though one thing is my header being pinned I don't know how it got like that so I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions on this would be great, knowing me its probably something simple.
Customize site... click Layout tab and scroll to the bottom.
I like the simple but effective presentation. I especially like your eagle shots. Here are just a few recommendations which I think will help bring out the images a bit more.
* If you can remove the neon green smugmug logo in the upper left I would do so. It detracts for your content. In fact that whole top banner is unnecessary as this same info is repeated twice at the top and bottom.
* I am really intrigued by your in flight close-ups and who love to see the image info provided. I know that is more of a preference. But still with so many great distance shots it would be cool to see what settings you used.
Derek,
Thanks for your kind and thoughtful reply! The smugmug logo is now gone, I hope. I didn't realize some of my galleries weren't set to show camera info. Thanks for catching that. I think I have it corrected. By the way, I love your site! Your landscapes are gorgeous.
Nice job! I like the clean and simple look of your site.
The one thing that jumped out at me is that you are using a grid format for your photos. I've never thought that a square crop was a good way to show a photo. I know, I know, I'm in the minority - but I think that your landscape photos would tend to draw someone in more if you didn't show them as squares.
I finally had the time to spend a weekend updating and unveiling our SmugMug site. Thanks to all the amazing posts in the forum on customization, without those I would not have made it.
Keith, I really like what you've done overall with the site. You've got some awesome images.
The one thing I recommend changing is allowing your logo and menu to scroll down on top of all the images. In viewing your home page that means I have to scroll down to view the slideshow. The result is I have your logo and menu smack dab in the middle of the photos. Same thing for galleries, blog, etc... It just looks out of place. This is on a 1920 x 1080 HD 17" notebook. I can only imagine what it does on lower resolutions.
Wow I feel silly I slected that at the start when I first started playing with it and totally forgot that where it was. Thanks again Denise I fixed all you all have mentioned, expect the breadcrums its a personal thing for me I really rather not have them on there for the look of my website.

I'm not telling you to turn the breadcrumbs on - I'm suggesting you add a gallery title to the description. If you don't like the look of the breadcrumb that is fine, but why not help your viewers by placing some text on the screen?
Your site may look pretty but what will you say when someone is trying to ask you about one of your photos and they have no idea what gallery it is in?

Makes sense I see what you mean. I miss read your original comment I will work on something that looks visually pleasing to me along with helping the viewer. Its all about finding a balance.
I like your site. It's funny, yours is the first site I've seen so far with a pinned header that works (as in looks good...). I suspect it's because of the shaded background of the header.
Good job, you've got a nice clean layout and nicely organized. I think I need to reconsider how I have my folders and galleries organized.
Thanks for the comment. It took me a long time to organize and I'm still not sure I'm 100% satisfied. I see the way others have organized and think I should modify. But, sometimes you just have to pick a horse and ride it.

Thank you. The pinned header caused me fits trying to get it to work properly, darn that css.
Hi,
I am new here so here is the site I customized so far for my photographs. I expect to do a bit more tuning as I will upload more work www.Fred-photo.com
I'm a new SM customer and this is my first DG post.
After 2 weeks banging away during the Trial Period, having particular challenges getting the Navigation of the site to follow the Organizer view file structure and flow, I eventually prevailed with various SM Hero's weighing in. I used the Moss design and launched it on August 17th. Some may think my categorization labels for the galleries are somewhat gimmicky - but it worked for me and I went with it. I'm now proud to announce my amateur portfolio site:
Still need to add captions to the remaining photos, potentially will add the geotag mapping feature to my Search page, and will of course modify/add content over time. Let me know what ya think!
I find the two slideshows in addition to the photos on your home page to be quite distracting. I can't focus on either slideshow. I'd recommend a single slideshow or just the photo images. You could try two slideshows without any additional images but I suspect that two moving objects won't work for many viewers.

After some good suggestions I changed to a one slide show look with some photos below the slide show. I will keep it like this for a bit to see if it grows on me.

Much better! On my computer (13 inch macbook) the slideshow goes edge to edge. How did ya do that?

The trick is to provide images in the exact aspect ratio of the slideshow blocks and to set the margins on the slideshow block to zero. I use a slightly higher than zero number on my site but the idea is the same. You also should set the gallery you are serving to have XL3 images available. The slideshow will stop scaling if you make the window too big though as the current slideshow will not serve any images bigger than XL3 even if you have set the gallery to "originals" and will not scale up. I understand SM are working on a better slideshow.

So you are drawing from a gallery of images that are a 3:1 ratio?
By the way, your site is lovely and so is the work.

Yes indeed. This takes some work as the slideshow will not automatically crop, so you have to supply the images in the right format. I wish that there were more aspect ratios available in the slideshow (I asked for this somewhere but can't find the thread now). The current set jumps from 3:2 straight to 3:1 which is far too drastic. There should be a 16:9 for example in between.
I ear you on that one Oja - I did the same thing then did a tiny tweak to give a tiny margin either side. But I made an unlisted gallery of 3:1 ratio images for a homepage slideshow.

Hi Paul,
How did you get only 2 column of big size photos?
Thanks,
