We've pushed the bug fix live ... saving gallery settings will no longer cause the sort order of your galleries to change. Photos will continue to upload at the end, but at least the sort order you've chosen will stay the same sort order! Please let me how it works for you guys.

It's hard to be impressed with this cop out. Everyone who migrated has already lost their sort order!
The bug only effected people who migrated AND went into their gallery settings AND clicked save. If you were migrated and did not save any gallery settings, then your sort order will still be the same as in legacy.

Your right, I should have said, "ALMOST" ...Everyone who migrated has already lost their sort order!
Don't you think "ALMOST" everyone played with the gallery setting while customizing their NewSM?
I appreciate the fact that you finally did something about this bug but for TWO YEARS this problem was known and "ALMOST"

Since I have been following this issue since it first surfaced, I believe I escaped harm. I have been careful not to touch the live galleries and am doing all my experiments in unimportant, unlisted galleries or brand new ones. I'll know for sure when I unveil, but so far so good. Besides, it gave me an excuse to put off moving to the new software .
Dennis, I agreed with you that this was a serious bug for some and I also agree that it would be good to have the choice of inserting new pics at the top or bottom. But hey man, it's time to give this one a rest. :deadhorse

If I had given it a rest, I doubt this bug would have been fixed!

SmugMug customers have hundreds, some even thousands of galleries and most users migrating don't go into galleries settings on every one of them as they browse. Typically Gallery Settings are most often looked at when the gallery is created; they're less viewed once a gallery is created. IF they did go into the settings and didn't want to change anything, clicking cancel would not cause the sort to change; only clicking Save would (again, the # of people clicking save without changing anything is fairly low). Additionally, the number of users who had the sorting method set to Position (Auto Sort = None) AND direction set to Descending is again, a small number (a strong majority sort by Date Taken). So while I'm sure there were some users effected by this, the number of fairly low, though it was an unpleasant bug for those that it did impact.

From personal experience, I have to disagree with this assessment.
I see it more as a rationalization for not restoring this needed feature.
And a denial of the grief it caused in the two years it took to finally admit there was a problem.
I remember going through this many times on OldSmug in the forums, it was recommended to set sort
to "none" "ascending" to get it to work correctly. Setting to "descending" could cause problems.
