I'm getting really tired
Of smugmug being down.. It's either really slow to make changes or it's down/read only again for some reason. I could understand if this wasn't an ongoing issue but it's really starting to irk me and I don't even upload many photos on a regular basis. These post of every so-often simply aren't realistic; Come on guys.. we're going into 2010 here. I'm sure a lot of people are doing a lot of good work but there's something that's not working and it needs to simply be nipped in the bud.

Hi, we're not down, nor have been in a while (there was a brief outage on 11/18 and 11/15, but nothing since then). This post was to announce that we'll be in read only mode very briefly tonight, while we add some new features.
Are you having a problem right now that I can help you with?
I have been using your service for a year or two. During this period there has never been one single moment when I have had a problem. If service has been down I either was told in advance or had ongoing information about status. So not one single moment with a problem. And my 14,000 photos in your custody are all ok.
Just wanted you to know that I am all happy and your service is vital and positive and just the best. This is my way to say that we happy users tend to not express our gratitude a lot ... we are mainly silent .. and happy.
Now don't hang around re-reading this too many times. Get things moving and let the new features come when they are ready ... especially the most wanted one
Regards, Harald

:jawdropHoly Moly! :baldy :giggle (that was my jaw dropping while bringing hot food to Baldy, who's sitting at the computer diligently working on something hot, while giggling at the same time... IF you're saying what I think you're saying!!!) I s'pose we'll know soon enough!

22:35 PST: Maintenance has begun. Big Pro-only feature coming shortly. We expect the read-only portion of the release to last an hour or less. More as we get it…
I don't think Harald will be the one giggling. (Why would his #1 request, virtual galleries, be a Pro-only feature?)
I'm thinking... coupons. I have a sense that they're easier to code than packages. (Note that Zenfolio has coupons, but they're still working on packages too.)

Right now? Everything is great.. but soon as something is down again i'll be back. If it's not as often as we are saying then I shouldn't be back for a long while. In which case my whining will be at a low volume.
because maintenance isn't done yet. The obvious site changes you can see are, but the operations guys have their maintenance to do too... you can't see that stuff like you can readonly mode.

T'would be nice if this was mentioned on the Status Updates Page.
Scenario:
A: Hey, SmugMug is going to be down tonight for some upgrades. They say this:
This will involve hopefully only a small amount time where we’ll put the site in read only mode.
B: Drag.
A: 11:22PM -- hey, check it out -- the site's back up and hey... Coupons!
B: Awesome, let me kick off this big upload. [I'm lame/cheap and don't use Star*Explorer, so if they decide to kill SmugMug's net connection while I'm asleep, the download will fail.]
See... the problem is that even though the "official" maintenance window is 10pm-3am, since you said it should be "small amount time" and that you'll put the site in read only mode, the *ass*umption will be:
if (!isset($readonlymode)) {
print "all is well" ;
}
Read Only Mode - many of you asked for a non-obtrusive message - and we listened.
Now, when we go into read only mode, we've nuked that big red message a the top of every screen. Instead, we give a notice when you or a visitor starts to use something that doesn't work in read only mode (logging in, add to cart, comments, etc) that is when we'll alert the user that the we're in read only mode.
Stats are offline while we repair some stuff in the datacenter. Rather
than keep the entire site in read-only, we brought everything else back
up and put messages on the stats pages.
We'll get stats back as soon as possible guys, thanks for your patience.
Edit: indexing, keywords, maps could be slow to index as well. Thanks for your patience.

Stats and indexing should be all good now. Thanks for your patience.
Up to 721, 18205 went to 18207 but it took 11 minutes. Still does not reflect the current daily total. Another minute has passed and the total is 18300 with daily at 729.
I don't have a clue but there appears to be a serious delay in the monthly stats and may not even be accurate for the month.

The stats totals are not being updated whereas the daily stats are (page with the graph).
Portfolio • Workshops • Facebook • Twitter
these totals haven't changed since stats have been back online
http://bwkphotography.smugmug.com/homepage/controlpanel.mg?NickName=BWKPhotography
yet these daily totals are being incremented
http://bwkphotography.smugmug.com/homepage/newstats.mg
i.e. the daily total went up by 6 and the grand total didn't budge in 5 minutes.

Going back, the total is now 18205, up 62 (total) detail hasn't changed from 710.
It appears to be updating the main page but very slowly and I don't know if, at the end of the day, whether it is accurate for the month.
A few mnutes have passed and the grand total has nor budged from 18205.
I don't have a clue but there appears to be a serious delay in the monthly stats and may not even be accurate for the month.
When I go into the Popular screen which lists all totals by Gallery, they all show 0.
Hmmm. seems to be a larger problem... none of the other sections are working at all.
