I have an unusual suggestion........
Ever play the game of HORSE, shooting a basketball, emulating your challengers shots?
How 'bout this:
I take a photograph, everybody takes their turn emulating / improving on the idea, in their own way? Now, you might think this sounds a bit boring but, it could actually be a lot of fun seeing everyone's attempts and, learning from one another's techniques used to create THEIR version of your scene / image.
Any comments / takers?

Canon AE1 - it was my first "real camera"
Canon 20D - no more film!
Trash
Yup trash. It is off the wall, wierd, smelly, dirty, germy, and just plain ick. But it can also be interesting. Would deffinatley be challenging to get a good trash picture.
I just got handed some assignments for my B&W film class that i though you dgrinners might find fun.
BEYOND FACE VALUE
Produce photographs that act as portraits of at least 2 different subjects and do so without actually showing the subject's faces.
Anybody viewing your photographs must be able to easily recognise 2 distinct personalities. Use careful observation and your imagination to explore a wide range of possibilities.
First thing I thought was EEEEEK...But my teacher gave a few examples like, photographing someone's bedroom....maybe it has unique mess...Or maybe they interesting ornaments, or the build models for a hobby. Just something to tell you a little about someone's personality without showing the person.
For my final work, if you are interested, I have done shots inside my fathers garage, he has fishing equipment and various enging parts, tools etc. laying everywhere. I have high hopes and is going to take ALOT of darkroom work...
anyway, thought maybe this could be a cool challenge for everyone!
One word topics
How's this, you take a single word or emotion (i.e. fear, love, hate, gum, grass, etc.) and you do your best to convey the emotion or word.
contest idea
So i already mailed andy and he said it was ok so here my idea goes:
I was watching the food channel and they had a sugar sculpting contest(cakes) and there theme was wall paper. They had to choose a wall paper and model there cake after that in some way be it colors or shape or 3D replica, but they couldn't just past the wall paper on it in sugar.
So thats my idea, model a shot after a chosen wallpaper. Every one can post a small shot of the wall paper they chose and thier shot they took that relaits to the wall paper. What do you think?
~Take it while it's there, cause tomorrow it will be gone~
Funniest Caption
I was struck with an idea after posting a response to one of Yuri's fantastic portraits.
How about a "Funniest Caption" challenge. Folks can post images and others would choose a picture, apply their own caption and post it as their entry. It's a slight reversal of our normal challenges as you would make a challenge entry based on someone else's picture.
If this flies, maybe the photog and the copy-writer can share the prize. (I'd kick in for doubling the prize)
Hey Ruffio,
I saw that one. Weren't some of those cakes absolutely amazing. I had wished they would have shown more than just the main cakes that ended up winning. A good idea, but that would be one tough challenge!!

A picture is but words to the eyes.
Comments are always welcome.
Another challenge idea
To make an everyday item unrecognizable. This would be a photoshop minimalist challenge. It could even be narrowed down to just household items. Everything from macro to wide angle shots to distort or hide our everyday world. This is more an exercise in perspective and how we visualized common subjects.

I have been thinking, but (and this might have been suggested already) what about a challenge called: Commercial Photographer for a day. The assignment would be to shoot a product, house, car, mtorocycle for the explicit purpose of selling it or marketing it. You are assigned to shoot a subject/product, and do Post Processing to your hearts content (text, graphics, collage, etc) but the goal is to sell the product that you are taking a picture of.
This challenge would really make us think and do what it is that needs to be done as a pro-photographer.
Just suggesting away,

Rust is a mainstay of the FM assignnments. They seem to do it every year. Nothing wrong with it, in fact it's pretty good. Tends to discourage people photography, though.
Opposites!!!!
So you would have to represent both black and white, or low and high, or dry and wet, or sad and happy in one picture.
Just a thought.

i think we should have a challenge where we pick out what best describes where we come from. whether its from the city, or suburbs, or country...anyways. yeah. just an empty thought out idea that came to mind.

Maybe its too general or has been done.

The POV Challenge
The idea is you have to shoot two or more shots from a location.
it could work two ways:
1. You cant move to take the series (stay put and shoot)
2. Shoot the same location or object from two or more view points.
