PS, nice stuff he's got!
Sorry about that. The images were posted by him in another forum and are all available on his website. He's a friend so I know he won't mind. He could use the exposure. His skiing images are amazing, but only because he's a landscape photographer at heart. His ability to frame the athletes is impressive. I'm hoping to spend some time with him on snow next week as I need all the help I can get.

Very nice images from your friends! I have not been to Mt Baker to ski but am always amazed at the amount of snow they get. BTW how did you do in Utah? The conditions were the best of the year from what the locals said.

I leave for the comp in the morning. The conditions went from perfect to craptacualr in one day. The weather turned warm and the venue (baldy shoulder, silver fox) is refrozen chicken head mank. It'll be a long weekend if things don't shape up.

Canon 1d M111
I finally read through the specs of the new Canon 1D and was blown away! I sure could have used one on my last ski shoot. One of the most spectacular improvements is the 12bit color depth. This will improve the way many sky’s are printed especially in landscape images. As it is now I quite using a polarizing filter to decrease the unneeded contrast in many shots where the polarizing effect on the rest of the image would be a plus. However, now with the extra bit depth there will be more steps in the gradation when working in post on dark blue skies. There are many other improvements which I am sure are all over the internet but this one particular one I thought was worth mentioning to all you landscapers. For the street shooters, I can imagine the 10fps and 6400 ISO will kick it up a notch.

Bahama
I figured with the snow still fallin in some parts, I would share a few pics from my most recent voyage to the warm side of the country. I have made five separate visits to the Bahamas at varrious times of the year and each welcoming was cloudy and windy with lower than expected temperatures. With my expectations low I went on assignment yet again this past week to photograph a remote Island near North Eleuthera http://www.eleuthera-map.com
The Island is being developed by Roger Staubach, former NFL player and will be turned into a villa pad with each pad selling for around 5 million. I feel fortunate to have visited the island in its primitive state capturing its shores as they looked for thousands of years. In this first image there are eight Manta Reys below the surface, each with a wing span of over eight feet.
Thanks for pointing us to the remarkable pictures by Renée C. Byer portraying a single mother and her young son as he loses his battle with cancer. These have to be among the most moving photographs I've ever seen. She captures the huge range of emotions involved with an intimate look that puts the viewer in the middle of it. Very moving.

I have noticed a trend in digital images especially on the forums, that is that they are usually too bright. Here is a quick fix http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/2794210
Once again, many thanks to Sid for his volentary image and I hope this keeps him from going tooooo looney
Last year, we in Minneapolis had the good fortune to be selected as one of the cities to host a stop on the traveling Pulitzer Prize Photography exhibit. It was in one of our finest museums, and it had EVERY SINGLE Pulitzer-prize-winning photo ever. My girlfriend and I spent hours taking it all in. Some of the photos were very moving.
I can not believe how lucky I was to get to see large prints of every single Pulitzer photo, in person, all in one day. :ivar

Cs3
Just an observation!
Having some time to mess around with the new sliders in ACR, I have discovered that Adobe has created a method of assimilating combining two exposures in one with the use of only one slider. "Combining two exposures in one" is a technique I and many others have used to obtain more latitude in there images when the scene contrast ratio is more than one exposure can handle.
That slider is called "Fill light". This will make a considerably powerful combination when processing RAW images to stitch, as often I have not only stitched multiple images into one panorama but processed all those stitched images twice through ACR to obtain more latitude in each exposure prior to stitching. I plan on sharing this in-depth at some future point but for now those who have CS3 can enjoy

wild Utah workshop
I spent the past week in Utah with some very excited photographers. Of all the tips tricks and techniques that I have shared the STAR BUTTON was the most well received, especially following Andy's additional refinement of using the actual star button on the Canon camera body - will explain in following workshops! I,m sure there will be some very nice examples in the participants posts and the fun shots are here.

Made In Santa Barbara
I spent Sat evening with 45 local Santa Barbara photographers, Santi Visalli being one whom I did not know lived in SB, celebrating the opening of our show titled "Made in Santa Barbara" at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Here is the link for anyone interested in visiting, as the show will be up until October.
These are both excellent Marc, but I LOVE the first one. Perfect composition, and including the sunstar effect is just icing on the cake. Thanks for sharing these!
