Post your sky photos here

I was inspired to start a thread dedicated to sky photos after admiring Ivar's beautiful stormy sky on another thread. There must be tons of great sky captures among all the members here. How about it?

I'll start with a pre-storm sky I saw last Saturday. It was so amazing that I stopped in a Walmart parking lot to try to snap it. I'm a newbie so I've done nothing to the photo because I don't know what or how to do that yet.:scratch

Amazing photos everyone! We don't get much sunset action in the summer, but this one's from tonight! (There hasn't been a cloud in the sky for weeks!)

I don't really point my camera at the sky just to take a picture of the sky, but here are some photos with sky that I've taken over the last year:

The long and winding road from Nadi to Suva.

The view from the balcony of room 261, the Holiday Inn, Suva.

Camera in one hand, beer in the other from the pool side bar at the Holiday Inn, Suva (thank goodness for IS):

Would like to post something more recent but conditions haven't been the best (sun sets in the wrong place).

Thanks Patti. Thank you for creating this thread.

There are some amazing sky shots here. I just have time to comment on a few.

Phil U., that snow shot is amazing. clap.gif All of your shots are great, but there is just something about that one.

pyrtek, I love your 2nd shot, and I knew as soon as I looked at it, that it was taken with the Sigma 10-20mm. My favorite lens. Nice work!

I love that lens. I'd sooner part with an arm or a leg than with my
10-20. Thanks for the nice compliment. :)

You are most welcome. I did it for purely selfish reasons - to learn from all of you. :D

Yet another newbie to photography question. What is special about this Sigma lens and why is it your favourite?

Pyrtek, where was the 2nd photo taken? It looks like Holland. Am I correct?

The logo in the right flag made me believe it was Germany, but it is actually Poland I think?

Close, relatively speaking, but it's not Holland. It's Gdansk, Poland. It's from the
roof of one of the biggest churches in the world (Mariacki Church). It looks like
this and like this from the ground (I'm posting just the links so as not to mess
up the theme of the thread). It's a magnificent structure.

The Sigma is currently the widest non-fisheye zoom lens available on a Nikon Digital camera. Shooting at such a wide angle is a challenge, but can result is some pretty amazing shots. It's great for landscapes, but also gets in pretty close when you need it to. I have a small gallery from when I first got this lens and was playing around in my house.

It's ultra-wide. It lets you get shots like these: 1, 2, 3, and so on. The
combination of very wide viewing angle and the possibility to get very
close to your subject make it really special. You normally shouldn't take
portraits with such a lens, but it can be really funny sometimes. :)

Edit: I noticed pjb923's reply after posting mine. His second picture is also a great example of an UWA lens in action.
