I think weather.com (if i remember correctly) said average highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s, mebbe 40s.

I guess I never recorded here that "we're in". Two deposits paid up. The wife will be with me, contrary to what the list on page one says.

Wunderground's history says lows at night hit freezing, highs in the days upper 70s, could have some rain, snow is unlikely.

WOW! 69 people all paid up -

    This is a big group!

David - if you need help with organizational stuff - putting together itineraries or stuff like that, holler. I'd be thrilled to help out.

OK, I guess manually updating wasn't working. I've changed to copy/paste from my master spreadsheet. Hopefully I got it right this time! :D

Woo hoo! I'm off the wait list and officially in! :ivar

Haven't had much time for shooting lately, but I've still been lurking. I'd also be up for climbing if there's still room!

    Arrival/Departure?
I'm starting to think about travel plans, (yes I like to plan ahead:D ) and was looking over the travel recommendations from the most recent trip. I wanted to make sure that with the shorter time frame this coming year (2007 was September 25-30=6 days, 5 nights; 2008 is October 8-11=4 days, 3 nights) that a mid day arrival in Moab on the 8th and mid day departure from Moab on the 11th was the recommended course of action by the "powers that be".

Travel: Fly to Grand Junction, or other nearby cities and then drive to Moab. We will be arranging for shared rides and rental cars, and participants will be splitting the cost of rentals/fuel. There will be information threads posted on travel and cars as the Shootout draws nearer.

Are we there yet? I mean, it is 2008!

OK, seriously though, how do most folks plan on getting there? I, for instance, will probably fly to SLC and drive the 4.5 hours. I can fly to SLC in 4 hours. While Grand Junction is only 2 hours away from Moab, it takes a 6.5 hour flight with a layover. Plus it costs $230 more. And cars will probably be easier to get in SLC.

But if people are wanting to fly into Phoenix or SLC sometime like 10/2 or 10/3 and head off someplace before Arches, I'm very interested.

Andy: Does Foochar have this correct? Do we miss anything if we leave first thing early morning on the 11th?

The lodge is reserved 10/08-10/11. Which means that checkout is on the 12th. thumb.gif

... I could add time on the backend, after the shootout for another destination if anyone is interested.

I suggested the frontend only to get 2 weekends in there.

    jdryan3,

In the past the first person to speak up about extending the trip has started a new thread to generate interest. You could start a "Pre or Post Moab 2008 Shootout" thread right here in Big Picture. If it takes off, we'll link it to the main announcement thread. deal.gif

Feel free to get the ball rolling!!! thumb.gif

David, there is already a pre-shootout thread here. In fact I went looking for it this morning when I couldn't find it linked via the sticky post.

I have a request for this shootout. Can we do a group picture of all the attendees either at the beginning or at the end of the shootout? I think that would be a cool souvenir for everyone and I haven't seen such for past shootouts.
