I've searched for this and can't find any threads relating to it.
I'm running Firefox 2 and from time to time (not always irritatingly) when I view a gallery, the main image will load below the thumbs and off to the right a bit. As in the graphic below (x=thumbnail m=main image (ignore the dots as I had to put them in to force spacing)
.......mmmmm
.......mmmmm
.......mmmmm
.......mmmmm
this, frankly, sucks
any ideas?
I have the same similar problem. It happens in my albums and most everyone else’s albums I visit. For me, the main image will jump below the thumbs as soon as I move the cursor over the main image. This happens every time at any window size. Only with Firefox (version 2.0.0.12, new install of Vista Ultimate)
My last post was deleted (not exactly sure why....maybe because I had an example of another persons public album to demonstrate the issue occurs outside of my albums????) so I'm reposting again.
Any help is appreciated. I've had this issue since "stretchy" was rolled out and it makes it very difficult to work on my albums. I don't want to turn it off either because it's not an issue for my visitors.

I can't replicate, FF on Win Vista. Any screen size, up to my full 30" monitor.
Do you have addons running? Disable them and see?
Thanks for your help Andy.
The only add-on I have is RoboForm. I've tried disableing it and even uninstalling it without any improvment. I've also tried the Firefox beta 3.0b2....no help.
I tried that link and was able to replicate exactly what happens on my system. FYI I'm on Vista Ultimate too but I also had this issue under WinXP Pro.
Just to annoy me, it doesn't seem to be a problem today. Like I said, it seems to be sporadic. I just logged in and everything is fine, window maximised or otherwise.
That fixes it! It doesn't occur when the customizing is removed. But I just went to someone else's site, with customizing, and the problem is back.
Thanks,
Tom
I'm going to have to take my statement back
I retested again tonight and it seems that at partial window, without customizing, the image has stopeed jumping below the thumbs. But as soon as I go to full window the main image jumps right back down. Again, this is only for my own site....the problem remains for me on other Sumgmug sites.
For me, the main image started appearing below the thumbs after I downloaded and applied an add-on theme for Firefox. With the theme (Aero Fox 1.0.5) enabled, I get the problem even in the Smugmug all time popular view (http://www.smugmug.com/popular/all#60948552).
This happens with a full screen browser at 1600x1200. If I then make the window just a few pixels smaller, the main image jumps to the correct position. Then I can maximize the window and the image stays in its place.

I have this code in my JS but it is not overriding the size of the thumbnails.
I would like to have the thumbnails stay small and all screen sizes.
Thanks
Jonathan
What gallery/galleries are you having trouble with? I just looked at some and they seem to be fine on my screen here. I'm currently on a 15" screen running IE 6. I'll check on different screens and browsers when I get home.
(Do you have a banner? I just see a blank space above your galleries, no banner image.)
On smugmug view, I have my pages set up to have the small thumbnails show at 1680 resolution and higher and right now, on firefox and ie 7, they come up as large thumbnails.
I have put in the code
SM.SmugMug.config.autoThumbSize = false;</PRE>but it still goes big. Everything works fine except that the thunmbnails go big at 1680x1050.

I just checked on that and I can't confirm it in FF2. The thumbs don't enlarge to 150px width until I remove the auto ThumbSize parameter. Could you check on it again and let us know which browser you're seeing this in?
Widening category, subcat, and html-only pages... Is there a downside?
Hi -
I have been a bit frustrated with the narrow size of the category, subcategory, and some of my html-only pages.
In experimenting/learning, I realized that I could enter
#category {width: xxx;}
... and so on to widen most screens.
Basic questions from a relative beginner:
1) Putting design and prettiness aside, is there any technical downside to making these screens wider? Might this cause something not to work?
2) I am assuming the default width of these screens is set to enable compatibility with older hardware/software. Is that correct? Can I reasonably get away with setting the width higher?

Smugmug has said that they are going to make these screens stretchy at some point so they will automatically scale to the window width. The only downsides I'm aware of are: 1) You set them to a width that causes horizontal scrolling on some window widths and 2) Your custom styling interferes with the stretchy implementation when it comes.

I changed the width of my pages in the way that you are considering. I haven't seen any problems yet. Once SmugMug widens some of the other styles I will go back and review my site to see if any further changes are needed. I set the width to auto, set a right and left margin (because I wanted some white space along the sides), and set a minimum width as well - so after someone sizes their window below my minimum width a horizontal scroll bar is enabled.
Take a look at my site and let me know if you have any questions related to the look that you want for your site. If you do wander over there, my Kaleidoscope and Gallery pages are html-only pages, so they don't carry the look of a normal page. To see a smugmug category page, look at http://www.denisegoldberg.com/Travel.
For the html-only pages, lock them into one of the wider styles if you want a wider look. For example, my Gallery page is an html-only page that is locked into smugmug style - I wanted the width of the screen available to me.
I turned "stretch" on in my customization page - and I had thought that's all I needed to do to get the stretch effect for all my photos/galleries. I didn't check to see if it worked because a. I trust smugmug, and b. my monitor is tiny!
But then I noticed the "smugmungus" tool in my photo dropdown menu. Looking into it in "help" I see that I have to use that tool on all my old photos in order to get the large sizes. Yikes. Do I really have to go into all my individual galleries and do that?

You can have stretchy without having smugmungous sizes. Stretchy is the behavior smugmug-style galleries have when the browser window is at different sizes. Smugmungous gives you bigger size photos to show. (Stretchy without smugmungous will fit more thumbs on the page.) So if you want the larger sizes, you do need to regenerate the photos that were uploaded before smugmungous existed. You'll need to change the max size of your photos to take advantage of it though. So... turn stretchy on at a site level. Enable larger photos in your galleries, and then use the tool to regenerate the photos. (It looks like your public galleries are currently set to large as the largest size to display... you'll need to decide which of the new sizes should be your maximum. I jumped to X3Large...)
I was pretty overwhelmed by the thought of this too, but it didn't take as long as I thought it would. I did my galleries over a couple of evenings.
Journal Style...."stretchy"...and how about in "slideshow" mode?
Journal remains my favorite style. I'm hoping that it will soon be "stretchy" to allow the maximum image display size (consistant with the user's screen) to be seen, and still have the captions display to the side of the image, just as it does today.
Further, the alternating left-, then right-, the back to left-registered layout of the screen is pleasing to my eye...it breaks up the "monotony" of image after image showing-up in exactly the same position as the last one... so I also hope that "feature" is not lost when Journal goes stretchy.
Lastly, I'm hoping there will be a "Journal-Slideshow" that will auto-display as described above...alternating left- and right-registered images with captions (when selected) to the side, along with an auto-"best-fit" capability built-in.
Doing so would allow me to optionally force the images in the gallery to be seen in the appropriate order when called-for.

I have not tried that. I will......but that wouldn't explain why I have this problem on everyone elses site as well, would it????

I'm running 2.0.0.12 version of FF BTW.
My gallery has no customisation as it's a basic account. See
http://johnandsheena.smugmug.com
I've just realised it only happens when I max the browser window. Resizing the window to almost anything less than full screen removes the problem.

I checked some more galleries on my larger screen (it loves smugmungous) and everything still looks good.
Also, with Firefox v2 I can see your banner image. However, in IE v6 it still doesn't show. In IE v7, I can see it.
