My point, NeilL, is that your statement above couldn't be understood by me. Please clarify it.
Please forgive me if I ask you for a little clarification myself, to allow me to respond with clarity to your request for clarification? Are you referring to the aforementioned, the aftermentioned, or perchance, the intermediatementioned statement? Trusting in your understanding. Neil

when does "Dgrin Photo of the Year" usually start?
are photos that have been used in the DSS challenges aceptable or is it for images only that have been shared in the other forums such as "Landscapes"...??
You peel the outside, cook the inside, eat the outside and throw away the inside???
A lot of things: chicken (or any bird/animal that requires skinnning), (baked) apple/corn (or any fruite/veggie/plant that requires peeling and has an inedible core)

I think it was around January the last time around and open to any image shot or shared over the year in question.

You couldn't and wouldn't. Sorry, it's a digital photography forum. Andy made this call during LPS.
I'm coming back to this because I'm wondering if film is now an option for future rounds (based on the acceptance of a round #11 entry, unless I misunderstood the disclaimer and it wasn't shot on film)? May I bring my Holga out of retirement?
This was a film image that was scanned. Since there has been no specific written rule against it, I allowed it.
Emily, but I believe this is still written in your own rules:
Fresh Photos Only: Digital photos must be shot during the respective 2-week contest period.
Proof of Fresh Photo: Entries must have exif embedded or appended. Click here and here for help. Photos made via HDR must include the exif from one of the merged images. Composite images must be composed entirely of fresh images, and must include exif from ALL of the images used.
I also remember DoctorIT saying it (on more than one occasion), that this contest is for digital media only.
I'm not against film, but I don't understand changing rules.
The rules have been adjusted to be specific. They have not been changed, I just realized that it was not clearly stated for new players, and as such, I made my judgment call. Since the image in question was not selected by either judge, let's move on please.

Seems like disallowing scanned film because it has no exif is putting the cart before the horse. Exif only provides support not absolute proof for shoot date; it is easy to fake if you know how. Basically, it's the on the honor system.
Anyone who is devoted enough to shoot film and then scan it is trying pretty hard. I'd like to see us give such people a chance.
After all, this is only a photo-web-site contest, not a national election. It's not like the future of the world is at stake.

Hi John
Good point, and perfectly in support of me saying "what's the big deal?"
The rules have been made to make a fair competition, BUT also to make it easy for us volunteers to run the contest. No digital, no exif = no entry, done.

This was a film image that was scanned. Since there has been no specific written rule against it, I allowed it.
For future rounds, I am editing the rules to clearly state that digital photographs with supporting exif only, are allowed.

And you might want to read this in the rules:
"The Contest & Challenges Forum Moderator and Dgrin Admin will handle any irregularities, and their decisions are final."
Anyone who is devoted enough to shoot film and then scan it is trying pretty hard. I'd like to see us give such people a chance.
