I'll second that. Welcome to the thread and DGrin. I started the thread and I've been a bit remiss in posting lately and I want to throw a few shots up to close the year down and add a few thoughts. I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the thread, ecspecially the more accomplished photogs who have offered up such valuable input and pointers. Since I moved up to the Nikon D300 in June with the Nikon 18-200 lens its been a learnign process from the D40 I was using where I was basically setting it on Sports and shooting anything that moved. :D

It was fun but since acquiring the D300 I've really enjoyed shotting so much more in Manual (don't have a choice!) and learning more about shooting.

I shoot in the Hudson Valley an hour north of NY City and the season wound down in October but some of the tracks started having some open practices right through November (there is even something tomorrow) and it wasn't until then that I think I finally learned the secret to life, or life with the Nikon 18-200 lens. And that is that for whatever reason, that lens likes higher F stops for crisp pictures. I had been shooting in the 5-7 or so range but once I started focusing on F9-10, the.....focus got better!

Who knows. Worked for me, thanks again to everyone who participated in the thread, and with no furtehr ado some late season shots I'm kind of proud of, but as always in my book all credit goes to the awesome riders who lay it on the line in the most awesome sport in the world.

Merry Xmas and all that there stuff..

Late November, even used the SB900 flash, not that I know what I'm doing with that, but SmugMug Color correction made it look even better.

Also late November. Not the "best" shot but I was thrilled that it sold as I believe it is a pair of brothers, in case you dind't notice the numbers are the same. I'm pretty sure they saw me and tried to stay together, which isn't easy on a downhill double. Used flash here also.

I'm not on the same level as you guys, but I just got my D40 and 55-200 over the summer and this was the first event I attended with it. I am starting a SmugMug to sell pictures of local races because no one else does it and was wondering if you could critique my pictures and give me hints. Thanks.

Please resize your photos to fit the screen. It's pretty tough to critique the image, when you have to scroll around to see the whole photo.

Hey, I started my own photography business this past summer and am an avid motocross photographer. I usually hit a track every weekend. I have a Nikon D5000 and I shoot with a 200 mm lens and am currently looking to buy a new lens. I am looking at the AF VR Zoom- NIKKOR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED lens. Would you guys suggest this lens? You can check out my work at www.lesliebrownphotography.smugmug.com and see what kind of action shots I take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
