I must convince, I have not read all 112+ pages, but I ordered my FIRST MAC on Wednesday!

I ordered a G5 of course, but it is just the little guy, the dual 2.0Ghz with the 160GB HD, I upped the RAM to 1GB non-ECC (Whats the difference?) and added the bluetooth built in.

I figure I can get more RAM locally, or online. I am also adding an existing 250GB SATA drive, from....gasp, my PC. This drive is strictly DATA, no apps, so I am hoping not to have any issues.

OH! I want to say THANKS for this thread, I am thouroughly impressed with all the cool tips and tricks. I am quite sure that I will be reading more and more every day!

    Congratulations! That's fantastic.

I hope I don't rain on your parade when I tell you they're announcing new Mac Pro's on tuesday, by all accounts? Did you know this? I just mention it in case you didn't know, and in case it makes a difference to you. And in case there's still anything you can do about it. I'd hate to see you regret your purchase because you didn't know what was going on!

All the info from rumors, but Apple will have some big announcements this week.

You can read the rumors on a lot of sites, macrumors.com usually has good info.

From a quick Google search, it looks like Apple is putting Intel chips into the Mac Pro's.... Well Okay, I can live with my current order if that and a new case are the only differences. I am coming from an OLD PC, it is an Athlon XP2400. So I am LITERALLY DOUBLING my processor speed, plus going to 64bit, plus getting a stable OS, plus all the cool Apple "widgets"!

Of course a part of me feels that "it figures" I have been looking at these G5's for over a year, and as soon as I plunk down the $2100 bucks a new machine is announced! Oh well, I can get one of those next year.... Or maybe I can snag up Andy's quad core when he upgrades... Laughing.gif See Andy, I don't post a lot but I notice the Andy-bay! ;)

You can keep up on the Keynote live, and make sure you watch the webcast that will be available afterwards. Always fun to watch Steve do his thing. Especially, his "one more thing." :D

Thanks David! I will certainly keep an eye on that. I am still anxiously awaiting my new computer, I keep looking at those Apple displays. Is that 20" monitor really worth twice what other LCD displays cost?

Does anyone else have a macbook out there?

I am still trying to find the source of my problem. I want to be able to replicate it, so I can show it at the Apple store.

One thing I have noticed is, when I reboot, it goes to the grey screen with the apple, then mine flips to a black (power off type) screen and then maybe a blue, with the apple box and progress bar, then to the desktop.

If you have a Macbook could you reboot and see if you get the black screen in-between the grey and next screen? ear.gif

    Thanks,
    Patrick
