Richard, yes they are all OEM parts.

Dragon, I don't plan on keeping this motor in the car for long. Over the winter I am going to rebuild a 4.0L and drop that in. A 4.0L with 105kmi just sold on ebay for $600!

Ah, OK. I just know that every aftermarket brand piece of rubber they sell for MB's lasts about 2 months before going bad.

Zac...you know you want to have a 3.8 liter mercedes engine right? I don't know what to do with my old one, no room to keep it and buying a storage unit is $$$ in the long run, but it runs fine so I don't want to scrap it.

Here is what you do with your old engine. Buy a 190E that doesn’t run, or doesn’t have an engine for like $500 and swap your engine in it. Then turn around and sell it for $3-4k.

I think you should do that (and do the pick up the engine in ATL)...since there is no way in hell that my parents would allow that. I'm actually surprised nobody has inquired about doing that considering the forums its been on. I mean, I'd let it go for like $600, so that person could still make quick money.

After Richard's comment about rolling metal, that's pretty much what

Ian, do you like those BBS RGR's? Cause I know a guy who has a set of 18x8's for sale.

They're ok. I haven't really looked at too many sets of wheels though so I'm
gonna hold off but thanks for thinking of me.

Ha, this sounds kinda like my family.
Andy, you owe it to yourself to finance your son's buying my engine and an MB with a bad engine...I mean, who wouldn't want their son to make money? This is a golden opportunity. deal.gif

Been following that thread at bimmerforums...BMW Man frightens me :uhoh
Also, I have it on good authority that whatever you do for springs, don't get the BavAuto branded ones.

You done this preventative fix yet? http://www.koalamotorsport.com/parts-home.asp

lol BMW man is my friend Brian. That guy is hilarious. He switches cars about as fast as I do.

I've never heard of anyones doors cracking, thats very strange. Might as well do the fix though just in case.

Brett Anderson at Koala is legit. A friend of mine worked for him for a year, plus he's the guy Roundel (BMWCCA magazine) turns to for answering tough tech questions in their tech talk section.

I need to buy a ratchet set. The one that's at home needs to stay at home, plus it isn't very good. If you could only own one ratchet set would it be 3/8" drive or 1/2" drive?

    3/8'' and SnapOn

Yeah, SnapOn for sure (well...I want to look at Hazet one more time...or maybe Facom), but it's the 3/8" that I'm not totally sure of. I mean, that's the same as what I already have (though what I have is a junky Husky).
That Facom CDX drive is intriguing, though it would be kinda annoying to not be able to use inch sockets and to have to buy Facom sockets. 10 degrees (what it appears all Snap-ons have) is so passe. Hmm..well the round head Snap-ons are also 5 degree, but the CDX gets a better grab on the socket (contacts at more points).

For general purpose work, 3/8" drive is best. Find yourself a speed wrench
as well (way faster than ratchet drive). It's the one shaped like a "U".
Say what you want about Craftsman tools but a) they are warranted for
life and b) there's a Sears or OSH (and I guess Kmart now) almost anywhere
you're likely to break one as opposed to the tool truck--who knows when he
    will be in your neighborhood.

If you plan to make your living with hand tools, then by all means, go the
Snap-On route. Besides, they have better calendars than OSH deal.gif

I may go with the Facom CDX drive set. It's way cheaper than a Snap-on set. It is still $100 more than a craftsman set, but its 5 degrees instead of 10 and its CDX so its the same size as 3/8" drive but can do the amount of torque of 1/2" drive.

Hmm...Facom is...annoying to deal with in the US. Maybe Beta Tools. It's Italiano, and they really are beautiful tools. Though, Beta's don't have quick releases. Still very nice, and still cheaper than Snap-on (snap-on always did, and still does, strike me as for being for American cars, hence their offering only 1 metric ratchet set in 3/8" but 3 in inch...plus Snap On screwdrivers suck compared to Wiha).
