I can go anywhere else I try to...
PS: I highly suspect this is a 'smugmug' problem rather than the internet falling apart because yesterday, last night and this morning I've only had problems with smugmug pages. I can go anywhere else on-line except smugmug pages (mine or others). Occasionally a smugmug page will load... but it's only by chance it seems.

I'd like to put in a vote for this being a combination of bizzare problems- some of which are not Smugmug's fault.

I run multiple servers that yesterday, last night, and this morning, can ping the outside world (google, yahoo), but cannot ping each other. My websites are all down but certain tracerts and DNS lookups work.

Strange winds blowing. We'll hear something on the news about this in a few days I bet.

Sounds like you did Start -> Run -> and typed the tracert command. You need to do STart -> Run and type cmd. After the command prompt window opens, then type the tracert command.

I didn't say it would take a few days for SmugMug to get it fixed. I said it would be a few days before we hear on the news that there were major internet problems.

My smugmug site takes forever to load. I am not experiencing this with any other site I attempt to browse...only with smugmug. Is there an issue????

If this is indeed a "major internet problem", it won't take days to make headlines; we'll be hearing about it constantly until the next "major" news story comes along to take its place. (Isn't 24 hr cable news wonderful!)

    No one knows????????
    Smugmug is still unreachable.

All this time with no concrete explanation is not accepatable.

I don't have time to read all these threads.

Please post what is the problem and the expected time to normalcy.

You should bulk email us with updates when these problems arise.

    Thank you.

Hello Nick, we're working as fast and hard on the problem as we can. I'm sorry for the troubles. When we have something to say, that has meaning, we'll say it. We've never been shy about doing so.

Well, that's a problem, because this issue is NOT affecting all customers, so why spam folks that aren't having connectivity issues?

One thing that's very hard for us - is that while you guys are reporting no access, many folks do have access. For example, I can hit all sites no trouble, from here in NY (Cablevision ISP). Not that this helps you, but it's making it hard for our engineers to pinpoint I'm sure.

Appreciate your patience while we work on this.

For some reason my site is not working properly today. Were some changes made to smugmug? It won't come up at all on Mozilla. On my yahoo/at&t browser it is really slow, and sometimes it looks all messed up or does not come up at all. By really messed up, I mean the colors are purple, or the banner disappears, or all the theme names for different smugmug looks are listed in a big list in purple or blue at the top of my page...you have to scroll waaaaay down to see my site and then the galleries are all lined up to the left, weird. Sometimes it's OK, sometimes it is not. I need it to work because I am getting most of my business from my website. Any help is appreciated.

ETA: www.reneesumner.com and www.reneesumner.smugmug.com are both having issues. The log in page was not right either.

Could be all wet but looks to me like most of us having problems are running on RR or Comcast.

Interesting as well is we can hit the Dgrin site and other sites all around the net (or I can) just not Smugmug. Usually net probelms show up on blogs, nada

I am beginning to wonder what comcast and RR are maybe up to? Yea left field but I have a huge distrust of both.

Got the following from a new member that can't post... It's all Greek to me, but they say the problem seems to be limted to 'hera' as 'pluto' is unaffected:

    ______________________________________

    Hi,I saw that you just posted on the dgrin forums for having smugmug network issues.I am having the same problems but cannot post as my dgrin membership awaits activation. I have some information that could help them in isolating their problems. I was hoping I could get you to post it for me? If you could the text begins below my signature.Regards,Brian M.Tracing route to hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 * * * Request timed out. 2 10 ms 11 ms 11 ms 10.64.64.1 3 9 ms 11 ms 10 ms gig1-1.kscyksgibb-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.94.161.149] 4 12 ms 12 ms 10 ms srp14-0.kscymordc-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.31.239.1] 5 14 ms 14 ms 11 ms srp14-0.kscymordc-rtr3.kc.rr.com [24.94.160.193] 6 12 ms 12 ms 11 ms srp12-1.kscymordc-rtr4.kc.rr.com [24.31.239.220] 7 12 ms 12 ms 14 ms so-3-1-1.kscymoL3-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.94.160.169] 8 17 ms 18 ms 21 ms ge-5-1-203.hsa1.StLouis1.Level3.net [4.79.132.13] 9 28 ms 27 ms 28 ms ae-11-11.car2.StLouis1.Level3.net [4.69.132.186] 10 * * 31 ms ae-4-4.ebr2.Chicago1.Level3.net [4.69.132.190] 11 33 ms 35 ms 45 ms ae-23-52.car3.Chicago1.Level3.net [4.68.101.39] 12 27 ms 34 ms 23 ms 4.71.100.14 13 70 ms 71 ms 71 ms tge1-3.fr4.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.171.66] 14 87 ms 81 ms 82 ms ve5.fr3.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.171.209] 15 * * * Request timed out. 16 92 ms * 90 ms hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23]Trace complete.C:\Documents and Settings\Cordite>ping -t hera.smugmug.comPinging hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=238Request timed out.Request timed out.Request timed out.Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=91ms TTL=237Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=89ms TTL=237Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=237Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=236Request timed out.Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=237Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=237Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=82ms TTL=238Request timed out.Request timed out.Request timed out.Request timed out.Reply from 63.81.134.23: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=238Request timed out.Request timed out.Ping statistics for 63.81.134.23: Packets: Sent = 19, Received = 9, Lost = 10 (52% loss),Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 80ms, Maximum = 91ms, Average = 85msControl-C^CC:\Documents and Settings\Cordite>tracert www.dgrin.comTracing route to pluto.smugmug.com [63.81.134.25]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 * * * Request timed out. 2 9 ms 12 ms 11 ms 10.64.64.1 3 13 ms 10 ms 10 ms gig1-1.kscyksgibb-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.94.161.149] 4 10 ms 14 ms 11 ms srp14-0.kscymordc-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.31.239.1] 5 12 ms 12 ms 16 ms srp12-1.kscymordc-rtr3.kc.rr.com [24.31.239.219] 6 12 ms 13 ms 14 ms srp12-1.kscymordc-rtr4.kc.rr.com [24.31.239.220] 7 11 ms 11 ms 12 ms so0-0-0.kscymoL3-rtr1.kc.rr.com [24.94.160.1] 8 16 ms 18 ms 18 ms ge-5-1-203.hsa1.StLouis1.Level3.net [4.79.132.13] 9 168 ms 204 ms 202 ms ae-11-11.car2.StLouis1.Level3.net [4.69.132.186] 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 33 ms 33 ms 33 ms ae-23-56.car3.Chicago1.Level3.net [4.68.101.167] 12 30 ms 24 ms 25 ms 4.71.100.14 13 70 ms 70 ms 71 ms tge1-3.fr4.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.171.66] 14 82 ms 86 ms 80 ms ve5.fr3.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.171.209] 15 * * * Request timed out. 16 80 ms 80 ms 91 ms pluto.smugmug.com [63.81.134.25]Trace complete.C:\Documents and Settings\Cordite>ping pluto.smugmug.comPinging pluto.smugmug.com [63.81.134.25] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=84ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=79ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=91ms TTL=47Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=79ms TTL=48Ping statistics for 63.81.134.25: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 79ms, Maximum = 91ms, Average = 83msC:\Documents and Settings\Cordite>ping -t pluto.smugmug.comPinging pluto.smugmug.com [63.81.134.25] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=111ms TTL=47Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=47Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=47Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=88ms TTL=47Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=90ms TTL=47Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=79ms TTL=48Reply from 63.81.134.25: bytes=32 time=91ms TTL=47Ping statistics for 63.81.134.25: Packets: Sent = 12, Received = 12, Lost = 0 (0% loss),Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 79ms, Maximum = 111ms, Average = 86msThe problem appears to be isolated to hera as pluto response is unaffected.

This is unrelated to the smugmug problem - but I just found out that Road Runner (or at least RR through Time Warner Carolina) blocked many, many of their residential users ports yesterday. Many people cannot accept incoming pings and cannot host their own websites (port 80) with residential accounts. These features worked before yesterday but have currently been blocked.

My connection -> slow poke dial up
    Thusie wrote:
Could be all wet but looks to me like most of us having problems are running on RR or Comcast.

Interesting as well is we can hit the Dgrin site and other sites all around the net (or I can) just not Smugmug. Usually net probelms show up on blogs, nada

I am beginning to wonder what comcast and RR are maybe up to? Yea left field but I have a huge distrust of both.

I'm connecting via slow poke dial-up. Earthlink & no accelerators. :cry
Someday my little rural farm will have reliable high speed again... iloveyou.gif

Speed Way Down Since 1/03/07, 7 p.m. (PST) - Seattle, COMCAST Cable
    Hi All:

There was an incredibly significant degrade in connectivity to SmugMug starting around 7 p.m. PST last night and is still a problem (1/04/07; 7:20 a.m. PST). Connectivity is so slow that pages won't load (get DNS errors, hit reload, sometimes it does very slowly, sometimes not). The JAVA upload page never loads properly, so it can't be used.

No other connectivity or speed of download or upload problems on any other channel but smugmug.com....

I note that the connectivity problem is not just to my pages, but to ALL pages at smugmug.com, including help pages, etc.

For instance, if I go to http://www.smugmug.com/help/themes and click on any of the menu items, I get an "error on page" status bar message and no connectivity at all.

Personally, I found this connectivity problem challenging -- it happened right after I put down my money for a Power User Account. My first thought was, "geez, they let me have a fast server while I tested them out before joining, and now.... ugh!" I hope that is NOT the problem... it appears not to be since several other people are complaining.... but, the connectivity problem was interesting timing for me.

Hope you find a fix... take care, Ron
