Time for new lens - Portrait specific
Aight, time for a new lens. I have some free money coming up and want to invest in my photography equipment. I currently shoot a Canon 40D with a Canon 24-70/2.8 and a Tamron 11-18mm lenses. I would like to buy a lens that I can use to get into portrait shooting and which can give me tack sharp, mindblowing shots. These… -
Re: What is best value for $700 canon lens
If you want to replace the 18-55 kit lens for something of similar length that won't break the bank and will leave money in your budget for another lens as well, consider the Tamron 17-50. STUNNING. It is the most consistently sharp of all my lenses (and I include the 50 1.8 and my 200L in that - both of those are very… -
Re: Lighting Gear Question + Answer
Thanks guys. I really appreciate your input so far. It really has helped me to think about what my immediate plans are but also to focus what I potentially may want to do in the future. The last thing I want is to invest money in a system that I will later either have to replace or give up on because it was too limiting.… -
Re: out of the rubble, ground zero...
You ask if I am "so arrogant to think that you can convey a complete story in a single image to all who may view it? " Yes, if you consider that arrogant, then I guess I am arrogant. You also ask if I think "that there is no chance of a viewer translating your image and shaping it into their own personal story? " Why in… -
Re: Drobo hardrive system
Ok,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have a few questions. Please type your answers slowly so I have a slim chance of understanding them. I will be purchasing a Mac Pro in a little while, and I don’t have a clear understanding of… -
Re: So how will i know when it is time to put her down
apples with apples they look pretty good but you should compare them against a CRT Flatron rather than against your tired old dog of a screen...i had a look at one last night and yes-nice big screen size and gee it sure looked groovy but I didn't see any greater resolution than my flatron which cane at less than a quarter… -
Re: New external hardrives.
The best prices I've seen are almost ALWAYS at Costco. I believe my studio just recently purchased two 3 TB drives for just $106 or something like that. $126? Either way, you just can't beat the price. Personally, I prefer G-Technology for quality, but still I've worked with plenty of WD mybooks and smaller portable… -
Re: Help with lens choices..
I love me the Sima 50-150 2.8, and if you plan on shooting all 11 of these weddings (plus a few more engagement sessions, etc.) BEFORE you upgrade to full-frame, it just makes financial and practical sense to buy a crop sensor lens that best fits your shooting range needs. If I were you I'd go for the Canon 17-55 plus the… -
Re: Video Editing suggestions?
I've got a couple high-end pro suites for pro editing but have used Pinnacle Studio (9 and 10) for pro work for years. I've also used it in the classroom (I've taught documentary video for years) with low-time users in K-12 and university classrooms and have spec'd it for statewide use--got one call for tech support in 7… -
Re: Let there be light!
ShepsMom, You are getting good advice from people who are a lot more knowledgeable than I am, but since I was sorta in your shoes at one time, I thought I would throw out my thoughts on this subject. First, I know your having a hard time wrapping your head around the unknown scary strobe thing, but the realty is far, far…
