Re: Who's responsibility is it...
I've been shooting since digital age, so everyone has about the same experience with digital. Im not in a knot, im asking what people are doing with giant ipads. because I've been asked to edit things like this out if I can. So when you get asked a couple of times, and then bill the client and they get upset you start to… -
Re: Are you actually having any sales?
My sales seem to be a 60/40 split between Europe and USA respectively. I chose the US lab (Bayphoto) as I proofed my files for them and like the results and options SM give us with them. I can't produce quality prints here in Vietnam so have to drop ship regardless. I get quite a few blind orders on my SM site both from… -
Re: First try at birds
The osprey were tough. I knew from taking some photos of some bluebirds in a nesting box in my yard that I would have to overexpose them. At zero exposure compensation they were nearly just a sillouette. I started at zero and walked the compensation up at 1/3 stop increments all the way to 2 stops over. The limitation was… -
Re: Macro lenses, help me select?
I would suggest the 100/2.8 if you will be hand holding. The 180 is a good bit heavier, plus you'll need more shutter speed to stop motion blur. And shutter speed is a precious commodity that's hard to come by at macro distances and apertures. I like my 100/2.8. The working distance is decent. Manufacturers list their… -
Re: My scope of responsibilities... Need Input
Well firstly, she continued to blame me for the appearance of her hair and dress... again not my problem. Then told me I wasn't posing them like I should... I then reminded them that they didn't pose themselves. They didn't just fall into those poses.... She said I wasn't mean enough, that people aren't supposed to like… -
Re: Correcting those newborn shots
This just might be a worst case scenario. Bad color, bad balance in the luminosity channel (way too dark) and lots of jpeg artifacts waiting to become obvious the minute you try to bring things into a manageable range. I found no quick fix. An image like this requires surgery of the extreme makeover variety. I initially… -
Re: Yearbook photos
I have done this sort of thing for a dance studio rather than a school. I would take: 2 lights... 1 Main with a reflective umbrella, 1 fill with a softbox. I use Alien Bees 1 Backdrop. neutral grey or a neutral earth tone. Many yearbooks specify grey. 1 adjustable stool or small chair with no back Some assembley to hang… -
Re: 17-55 f/2.8 or 24-105 f/4 IS lens? help needed
The answer is in the specs. I doubt the choice lay between how good a photo someone like Andy can take. I'm sure he can create beautiful work with either if he's not too busy finding converts for exotic lenses like Distagon's to shoot with. Your decision should hinge on: 1. Which is more important to your style of shooting… -
Re: what computer and screen
I use Dell since their workstation service is amazing (next day on site if anything goes wrong). My current system is: Quad Core Intel® Xeon® W3540 2.93GHz, 8M L3, 4.8GT/s Turbo W3540 12GB, 1066MHz, DDR3 SDRAM, ECC (6 DIMMS) 512MB NVIDIA® Quadro® FX 580, DUAL MON, 2 DP & 1 DVI FX580 1 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ and 16MB… -
Re: no one buying my prints after my gig
I don't know if certain ones flop, every event is also an opportunity to meet people who may have a future need. Sometimes getting them to your site is good, but not always. Also I don't mind answering question but to just basically say "Tell us everything you know", I don't have the time, unless you are willing to pay.…
