Re: Canon lens question/help with purchase
Starting with the Canon EF-S 17-55mm, f2.8 IS USM, this is one of Canon's best zoom lenses and, IMO, one of the best general purpose, standard/normal zoom lenses on the planet. My keeper rate went up dramatically for event photography when I started using this lens (for Canon crop 1.6x bodies). While it's an EF-S lens, and… -

So if a lens performs bad in his review it's not because of him, it's because of the lens. Somewhere I read that his review is flawed. Nonsense the review was technicaly sound and correct. And of course… -
Re: 1/2/3 Stop Mean
Bill, if your lens is a kit lens, the widest aperture you can go to is f3.5 at 18mm and f5.6 at 55mm. A more expensive lens will have a constant aperture. A 70-200L f2.8 only has one f stop number. This lens will open to F2.8 throughout the zoom range. Will is right. There is more to DOF than just aperture size. Distance… -

The silicon chips are probably fine - I worry more about the grease and adhesive elements in the lenses and the associated expanding and contracting with temperature changes in the lens elements. On the…
