Re: Can't get any 'depth' to my landscape pictures.
A quick primer on settings: the smaller the f-stop number, the larger the aperture opening set, and hte narrower the depth-of-field (DOF). Setting to f2.8 has your lens wide open with it's narrowest DOF, and is the exact wrong setting for a landscape. So you need to stop down to probably at least f8, or smaller if you can.… -

Re: Dead Grass
Hi Tony...Thanks for the really nice comment......I usually shoot just before sunrise to maybe 8am or 9am........ Then again from around 4pm to just after sunset. I do shoot in the middle of the day if I have something in mind, ie. a pic. called 104 in the shade. The trees in the front of the property cast a neat shadow on… -
Re: DGrin Shootout 2009 -- Sign Up for Registration!
Just an FYI: sending the invoices is a manual process, so I'm sending them in small batches whenever I can catch a few minutes during work. Please don't worry if you haven't seen your invoice yet. I promise you it'll be on its way soon. :D Also, I've learned that PayPal charges a fee for instant transfers on business… -
Re: Hats
whew...they aren't helpful at all! Apparently the site you linked to is the manufacturer's site. They only distribute to sellers and they make hats for sellers. A check with Google's froogle found this site, yet they don't have that hat. http://mwprints.com/xcart_4/home.php Over at Amazon, I found this hat: link to the… -
Re: Couple of 580Ex II questions
WIth the OEM off camera flash cord, I believe you do retain HSS ability. You can get much longer off camera ETTL compatible cords from Paramount- http://www.paramountcords.com/ttl.asp The native flash synch speed for the 5DMK2 is 1/200th, and I would expect a 580EX II to work with that shutter speed without leaving a… -

Re: Yeah, I made the leap to a Mark IV
I have the 70-200 2.8 IS too but I'm having trouble with the weight of it combined with a heavy body like the 50D plus battery pack, and now the Mark IV. I decided to take the plunge with the 24-104, I have a breed inspection August 2 so I'll let you know how the focal length works. I actually got the 70-200 f4 IS too, I… -
Re: What lens would you get??
An f/4 lens is not fast enough for ambient light family shots. I got a 24-104 with my 5D and it was only a couple months before I was shopping again for faster glass (I still have my 24-105, but I use it with a flash). Personally I went with primes and I regularly shoot at f/2. However, depending on the environments you… -
