Re: Just for you hardware geeks
LINUX is becoming very mature, but driver issues still abound and you have to do your homework regarding hardware before building the machine. Even Adobe is recognizing the market now and at one time Corel even had their own (pretty good) installer for a dialect of LINUX. ILM uses LINUX renderfarms (something over 1000… -
Re: Canon i9100
I have found with my S9000 and i960 that just letting photoshop "resize" by specifying the image size in the PS dialog does a pretty good job. I shoot with a Canon D60 (same size sensor as your Drebel) so the effective ppi for a 13x19 (11 x 16.5 image area) is about 186 ppi. I would suggest sticking with the OEM ink... On… -
Re: Another lens suggestion
AF speed of Canon 1D, 1D MkII, and 1Ds MkII... I found this in the Canon document "Getting the Most From Your EOS 1 Class Digital SLR" and thought I'd share it. QUOTE: "All EOS-1 class digital SLRs feature RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) processors so that multiple operations can be performed simultaneously. The… -
Re: Need advice: strobe radio remotes (for Alien Bees)
I have the Gadget Infinity version of the Alienbee remotes. They are $25 for both the transmitter and reciever. They worked well. But I recently upgraded and bought the Elinchrom Skyports ($186). I wrote a review here. With my D50, I could sync to 1/800 and sometime 1/1000. The sync speed for radio remotes actually is… -
SF Bay Area "Undiscovered Photographer" show and sale, August 2008 - we

I am putting together a small photo show and sale for Saturday Aug 23. The easy access location is in San Jose. I have space for more quality photos,… -
HTTP PUT uploads don't seem to work
I'm trying to get HTTP PUT to work using python httplib. I made sure all of the headers were set and properly spelled (including case). I simply get a "Broken pipe" error message from the server. Are there any examples of using httplib in python to upload via PUT? is HTTP PUT still a valid upload method? <pre> 173 data =… -

Re: >>> SF#1 finalists List, vote for your favorite!
I think there is a subset of Dgrin members who perhaps feel a little disconnected from this new contest format. I took a look at the voting for the old style challenges. Using the data from challenge #68 through #85, the average number of voters was 190 (median 186). Compared to the current public vote here in SF#1 of 142,… -

Jazz Concert
A few days ago our local high school (TOHS for my homies:-) hosted its Spring 2007 Jazz Concert. In addition to featuring its own two jazz bands there were also two bands from a nearby university. My original intention was to take no pictures and simply enjoy the good jazz. However, after dropping off my student and…
