Re: Sept 8th Site Issues (can't upload & speed)
Lots of sites not working for me too. Here's a tracert: C:\Users\John>tracert cmac.smugmug.comTracing route to a539.b.akamai.net [77.67.85.11]over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1 2 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms adsl-216-103-211-254.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net [216.103.211.254] 3 11 ms 10 ms 10 ms… -
Control panel login not responding
I can't log in to get to my control panel. secure.smugmug.com just spins and won't respond. A tracert to secure.smugmug.com shows no networking problems, so it must be some issue on Smugmug's end with the server that is supposed to field that SSL login request. Here's a tracert: Tracing route to secure.smugmug.com… -
how to sharpen for smugmug?
Hello Wise Ones, I've been trying to get SmugMug to work for me and I'm having difficulty. At home I resize and sharpen at the end of my workflow to match my desired printer and the size of my print. It's easy to match my print against my process. Yet with SmugMug I'll never know what the print size is going to be, and to… -

Re: SmugMug Service Status May 10th PM
Unable to open many of my galleries Many of my galleries won't open, the browser just times out. I can see my home page, can open a category and can open some galleries. But others just timeout. Here's one example that won't open: http://jfriend.smugmug.com/gallery/353444. Others are very, very slow to open. Others are… -
Re: Print Size and camera and crop
Counterintuitively, the larger the print, the fewer the dots per inch you need. Shay had a great thread about why. For that reason, EZ Prints (smugmug's print partner) runs its small printers at a max resolution of 300 dpi, the medium prints are 254 dpi, and the really large ones are 200 dpi. For people who saw the digital… -
Re: Questin that I don't understand and need help!
Ok most has been stated already, however I will give it a try. I think that the confusion here is the pixel size in pixels versus the file size in bytes. First a 21Mpx RAW file from a camera will not be necessarily 21MByte. For every pixel the appropriate color information is required. Hence a single pixel can have up-to… -
Re: Fish Eye lenses to the extreme - which one??
I haven't yet used a fisheye (some really distorting wide angles though :D), but there's one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet I thought I should raise: do you want Circular or Diagonal? A diagonal fisheye is designed to cover the entire frame, meaning you get coverage of 180 degrees drawn between far corners. These are… -
Re: art in the park
excerpted from the NY Times, 3/5/05 ..."The Gates" (Is it art? What is art? And haven't we heard enough of this project?), another query has flitted through the minds of some visitors to Central Park in recent weeks. How did the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude manage to spend that much money on their tangerine dream? To…
