Thanks for the heads-up. I suggest sending an email to all power and pro users. I'm guessing that some will not see this thread in time, and an email out to all would be additionally proactive.
Trust me, all power and pros will get notice.

A records are needed if you want your visitors to go straight to your SmugMug site using yourdomain.com if not, they must type in www.yourdomain.com

I see that your cowtownphoto.com currently points to a redirect page and then to a web page hosted somewhere else. So that is up to you.
I never noticed that. I'll make the other change. Thanks for the info.

I just tried to change it but it looks like I can't so I made changes to the link at my original site.

    Thanks again.

Also.. Did anyone ever tell Andy that from his picture on here he kinda looks like Capt. Sig from the fishing boat Northwestern on Discovery Channel's show "The Deadliest Catch"?

    Communications A Must!!!
This is very helpful... I plan to change over tomorrow.

I trust this is something you will communicate (in advance) using an email blast, homepage news, AND Control Panel News???? Don't rely on people happening to see this thread!

I've already said in this very thread that we plan on doing just that.

This thread is merely a heads up.

    EDIT: And so is this:

    Thanks.

Doc, looking at other peoples posts about changes I've just realized that I haven't got an ANAME, tried looking in the 1and1 control panel but can't see anything.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

I must have made the changes correctly. My GoDaddy Domain Details page looks just like Andy's!

Thanks for posting the screen print. That helped.

I'm using www.namespro.ca for my website.

    I have this currently:
    CNAME www.thepupil.ca smugmug.com
And I think you want me to have this:
    CNAME www.thepupi.ca domains.smugmug.com
    A thepupil.ca 208.79.45.23
    Correct? eek7.gif

That is correct. You do not have to use the A record if you do not want. But some visitors are lazy and do not type in the www. I know I am. I rarely type it when I surf. The @ A record allows visitors to reach the site without the www.

That's interesting because if I type just "thepupil.ca" into my browser now - then my page pops up no problem. Yet, I don't have the A stuff in my domain settings. hmm...

Maybe I should try it without the A first...and let you know.

Oakley, Some domain hosts do a better job and handle this automatically for you. Some web browsers (Safari and Firefox) also handle it automatically.

My domain host requires an A record if you want the domain without the www. Many others do as well.

I think I set up my main domain correctly, it seems to work with or without the "www".

My question is about forwarding a second domain; what goes in the @ and CNAME lines for the second domain so it will forward to the first? My main one is "wowmephotos" and my second one is "buffalofirephotos". I saw the warning about forwarding; and frankly it is a bit confusing. The forwarding was working with the old IP address. My webhost is GoDaddy. Thanks for your help.

Sparky, We do not officially support multiple domains. I have put some ways that will make it work here: http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/Multiple+Domains

Forwarding may have gotten people to your site before, but did the URL stay in the address bar? If you use forwarding, the domain will switch back to your yournickname.smugmug.com address. Forwarding will also cause major problems for things like your shopping cart.

I don't know if the URL was the same or not before.

I have the second name in case I want to switch in the future, I don't market it. Hosting a page looks like a good idea, do you have any recomendations of who to use? I've looked at squidoo, is that what I should be looking for?

    Cname and Google Map Key
Not directly related, but seems like a good place to put this.

I set my cname for the first time and had to generate a new key for the google maps.

It makes sense, I just didn't think of it until I noticed the "around the world" feature stopped working.
    See you later, gs
