You have a bunch of duplication that is not needed.
1. delete it.
2. Keep
3. Keep
4. IF your domain host allows this, it is rare. So you can keep it.
Thanks Doc. From what I can tell, my registrar automatically creates #1 and #2 (domainname, and www.domainname A records) Below is the verbage from my setting page. I realize this creates a duplicate, but will it cause any problems?
b1. Enter your desired remote URL
(type it exactly as you enter it into your browser, begin with http://)
b1. Web Address: 208.79.45.23
[SIZE=-1] For advanced users and system administrators only - hosting your own web server:
If you are running your own http (web) server and don't have a DNS server,
you can use our DNS servers by entering an IP address in field b1 above without "http://"
Two A-records for your domain will be established in our name servers for "domainname" and "www.domainname" pointing to the specified IP address.
It should not be a problem. You can use just CNAME records or A records. But the preference is on CNAME. So if they are allowing it, it should not be a problem. Give it a try. If there is a problem, you may have to have them take a look. Contact me on the help desk too, I may need to take a look if that happens.
Taking Quite Awhile
We have our domain name www.24sevenmagazine.com hosted at Dotster - paid the additional $10 annually for DNS Management (ripoff, lol) and pointed the URL to the CNAME domains.smugmug.com.
Has been 3 days and still has not updated on the net - I check at zoneedit.com and through smugmug by trying to associate the domain to our smug site and says no such CNAME yet.
Any suggestions - or is it possible that when I made the change at dotster, THEY have to manually make the change when they recieve the changes from me and are just dragging their heels (rather than the changes taking place directly when I make them in DNS management). Sat on the phone waiting for their support for over a half hour and gave up.
Its possible that they do the changes by hand. I have seen a couple domain hosts do that before. That is one of the reasons they tell you that changes can take 72 hours. Given the holiday weekend, they may not have anyone working that can do it.
you might want to consider transferring to a domain host that allows you to it yourself and have the changes happen right away (godaddy usually takes less than an hour)
Given that you have a web site attached to the domain, they may want to make absolutely sure that you are doing the right thing. So be sure to check your spam folder for responses. just in case...

Yeah, all my other domains are through GoDaddy, I just hooked up with 24 Seven and they have all their mail accounts tied to that domain at that host (dotster) - they have a ton of email saved there I guess, hence having to tolerate Dotster as the domain host at least for the time being.
Will wait a bit more - thanks again for the input!
