Either way, I got my 5D MKII yesterday, and so far I'm in love.
Holy Smoke, you're right, the black spots are exist on Laforet's pic I havent really read the thread on other forum, but does this black spot showed on RAW?
well okay - I'll look for it, I guess I haven't seen it yet, on my camera.
Wow - crazy! Haven't seen it in hundreds of night shots this week. Shot with 400 f/2.8L, 600L, 300 f2.8L, Sigma 120-300, Canon 24-105L - seen no black dots.....
People who have received production cameras are having the same issue. Honestly I don't think anyone noticed it until Canon was shipping them.
I don't have my own mk ii yet to check this issue with -but there certainly is a lot of discussion around about it. But, even with the chatter, i'm not yet convinced it is a "huge" issue. It may be, but i don't think it is yet significant enough to panic over.
I would be much more upset with stuck pixels on my camera.

The crop of the night shot you posted does indeed show this. Look at the building on the right side of pic, the lights running up the edge of the buildings. Your shots were portrait oriented, so the black dots appear on top of each of those lights.
I'm not saying this is or isn't a big deal, but it's there.

The black dots are definitely there all over the whole shot. However, there are some lights that don't have the black dots.

That's horrible Andy, how can you accept such poor image quality as that?
You processed these in CS4, I assume, ACR 5.2?
My Lightroom 2 does not open my 5DMkll files yet, even though I understand they are expected to shortly.
Any idea when LR 2 will handle 5DMKll files?
From here: (Lightroom has not been updated with the new camera support listed below. Lightroom will be updated in December to Lightroom 2.2 with new camera support)
It looks like the A/D gets momentarily blinded by blown out highlihts. Essentially as it scans if one pixel is too bright it can't see into the shadows for the next one. Our eyes do the same thing and I can imagine it was a conscious design choice to improve the low light sensitivity. I wonder what you have to do to make it show up in a print?

Yeah, personally I'm not very concerned with the issue. Sure, I think it would be nice if Canon fixed it, but I really don't see it having much of an impact on my photos.
Well. Folks are starting to get their Canon 5D Mark IIs, and starting to shoot with them!
My attitude is to shoot first and measurebate later, so took Zac, Oliver & Trevor out this afternoon in really harsh light and shot a little bit Just a few, with Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 50mm f/1.2L.
The shots are wonderful..........Striking! I want one.

It's not the worst example I've seen, and you REALLY need to be looking for it to notice, but it's there.

But i'll be following the issue for sure.

I would think it's only really a problem if you're making a bill board or something. For the average prints is it really important? Probably not.

I take it you don't think there's a problem in real terms. :ivar

So I gather this black dot issue is more of a problem for pixel peepers than for others.
