I'm a little late to the party, but here's a fire truck I stumbled upon while waiting for a friend. The guys were all eating lunch except for the poor schmoe who drew the short straw. I later saw him walking out of Vons with a cart full of groceries. I hope his buddies at least picked him up a sandwich!
I often wonder why they take the truck to the grocery store. We see them all the time at Half Moon Bay's Safeway! Sure is a kid magnet too, all the little ones are so happy to see a fire truck at Safeway, up close and personal.

I would imagine it's in case they get called to a fire while they're out. I live right across the street from a fire house and it's always fun to watch them put the truck away. Since they back it in, they have to take up both sides of the street for a short while. With the cars backed up on either side and the truck flashing its lights it's sort of like a little mini parade.

A black fire truck? Wow! Never seen one of those though for a time,
bright neon green or white was popular. We have a couple of yellow
engines in Sunnyvale. The city has been painting the rigs in traditional
red as they've needed painting or as they've acquired new ones.
Thanks for sharing that shot. It's unusual for sure. Do you know why
they chose that color scheme?

You're welcome.
Judging by the spotlights on the side, I think they used it to promote a nearby subdivision, "The Ranch." I took these shots about five years ago. I remember it was somewhere between Banning and Palm Springs.

A couple old firetrucks...taken last summer during a 4th of July parade in Columbia, CA. The parade featured quite a few old fire trucks but since it was mid-day, the lighting was pretty harsh.
After the parade, I had a chance to take a picture of the engine controls of one of the old vehicles in the parade...probably the best shot of the day (imagine having to deal with all those levers in a modern car):

I'm getting dizzy just trying to read all those words around the steering wheel! I'm not even sure what some of them mean
It did make for one fascinating photo though! You were lucky to be able to get so close to get that photo.

Here's a couple of support vehicles. They respond to fires and refill the SCBA and oxygen cylinders on scene.
