HDR usually doesn't really look good on skin tones, especially when you process for a surreal look...unless you intentionally want it to look that way. In this case it is the perfect way to represent "My Little Monsters"...I mean my twins
Looks like they just need a lite tumbling to calm them down.

professional, some of your more scaled back HDR images are really, really nice. i like HDR when it is used tastefully to enhance an image, not to make it look gaudy and over-processed. although i am guilty of doing just that in the past, i generally stay away from HDR these days as i don't like the over-processed look. here are a few that i took a few years back when HDR was all the rage:
Since i've got into MF [and film as well], i don't shoot much of digital to do HDR, also my situations became worse since 6-8 months ago [and my dad passed away on 27th Dec], so i hope i can get back to my skill and post more of my best HDR shots.
Please forgive me if this has already been asked/answered but 1. how many exposures to you normally use and 2. what HDR program do you normally use (PS, Photomatix, etc)

1. I use minimum 3 exposures maximum is open as i can go up to 11 and 13 and 15 even 21 if i want, but that will be too much un-necessary.
2. I use Photomatix for my HDR shots, another time i use Dynamic Photo software, Photoshop/lightroom/Aperture/C1...etc are just as last retouch.
In fact the above shots are not the right one, there is a problem with color profiling, the original look much better crispier and contrasty, so i will try to correct the color profile to match with browser.

There definitely is place for extreme overdone HDR and this is certainly the place. It just works so well here. clap

So here's some more from me:
#1 Old boat at the Chagres river (7D + 100mm Macro lens !!)
#2 Blossoms in the jungle (7D + 70-200mm 2.8L). This is the "natural look HDR" to replace a gradient filter for the sky.
