Is there a way to tie coupons to a package? Like, "Order this mega-huge-awesome package and get 25% ala carte purchases!"
Is that doable? Or is the only way to approach it to email the customer a coupon code after they purchase a package?
Coupons can only be limited to certain galleries. It's not possible to link a coupon with a package. Sorry.
You could add your suggestion to the SmugMug feedback page.
What you could do is limit the coupon to the gallery in question and disable any individual products in the gallery so that only packages would be available.
I think I want it to work the opposite of that. If they buy the package, then they get 25% off any extra individual products.
Looks like emailing a limited coupon after a package purchase is the way to go. Thanks Sebastian!
That's something you can do with your package pricing. You can set it at any price you like (as long as it's above cost prices). No need to provide any coupons.
I know I can set the price of a package, but I have to explicitly include items in that. I want customer to purchase a package that has the set of prints that I want them to get, and then have the ability to individually purchase other items for a reduced fee. Like I said, I know I can do that with a coupon that I manually send after they purchase a package, but it isn't ideal (to me). :-)
coupon use
I know I can set the price of a package, like bundling a package, but I don't want my clients to get that reduce package deal and use a coupon in the same time with their individual prints order. I want customer to purchase a package that has the reduce set price and able to use a coupon for individual prints. There's no way of preventing them not to use that on the bundle packages. It isn't conducive enough.

how do i get a link to share a coupon via social media?
There's currently no specific coupon sharing feature. You can just mention the coupon code along with details to where it applies and when it expires.
Alternatively, you could take a screenshot of the coupon image in the coupon management and include that in your share.
We need two more coupon features fast!
Running a holiday special for 20% off gallery purchases, and my sessions that get a print credit cannot use both coupons together! Would really like to be able to use multiple coupon codes for certain situations.
Also, would be a great to have something like a free 8" x 10" coupon that is linked to an email address. It would have to be product specific, as the price of an 8" x 10" changes based on different pricelists. Linking to an email would allow the photographer to make it active for specific users and we won't have to create a new one each time.
I know that's asking alot from the programmers, but I bet they can make it happen.
I do love the idea of coupons, and personally I would love to see discounts-by-url. Right now I'm experimenting with Google Adwords and would love to offer people who click the ad 10% off a print, but unless I add the coupon code to the ad, there's no way for me to get this to the person.
We've finally unveiled a fantastic, beautiful coupons feature for our pros. Our help pages are the first line of defense against confusion, so check there for lots of great info.

Hi coupons are a great idea. I have already created some for the Holidays. What I would like to see is the ability to be able to feature a coupon on my homepage. I know I could write a blurb in my bio, but I would rather it be something that stands out. When a coupon is created it creates a flashy image (the one on the upper right of the coupon maker) which contains all the necessary details but there isn't any means of using that image anywhere, not from what I could see. I understand that not all coupons would be public but it would be a nice feature to be able to utilize. Thanks

You could take a snapshot of the coupon, upload the coupon image to an unlisted gallery and then embed the image as html into your account settings > style > advanced customizer > custom header or custom footer section.
To get the image embed code for a photo, use the share button > get a link > embeddable links tab. There you'll find the blogs code in different sizes. If you don't want the photo to be clickable, just remove the <a> and </a> tags from the code to just leave the <img> tag.

I am planning on photographing our local swim team. I did it last year. All the files are uploaded to a single gallery. The team shot was included, but individual photos were not. They were ordered online off my Smugmug site. This caused some confusion as a few parents thought their individual shots would be included with the initial payment.
This year, I'm proposing that they get ONE 5x7 individual included. What's the easiest way to do that? Do I offer them a one print coupon? How is that managed on the site when there may be up to 100 separate customers?

Norm,
Coupons may not be best suited for this use case. You could take a closer look at our packages feature instead. With a package, you could offer the two prints for the price of just the team photo and thus the 5x7 could be included for free. For details, take a look at the packages help page.
Voucher for specific download
Great idea the vouchers.
We take images of our outdoor activities and then;
Show them on-site after the activity
Upload them to Smug and send a thank you email with watermark for viral marketing
From this we get a few sales but I would like to push that and the coupon could help fuel a buying frenzy.
What I would like to do to get things rolling is be able to give a specific product, like a single image file download. So instead of a % or $ promotion FREE DOWNLOAD of any image of your choice.
I don't even know where to reply to, this thread is huge! I have a pro account and no where in my account settings is a place to "manage coupons". Do I have to create a new price list or something?

Hi Kori,
Maybe you have a Portfolio account where coupons are not available? If you have any additional questions, feel free to email us at the help desk!

Do you have the Portfolio or Business account level? Coupons are only available on the Business level. For a comparison of Portfolio and Business level, take a look at this chart.
If you're using the Business level, you'll find coupons in the account settings > business > making money section. For the additional details, check out this page.
Coupons and digital downloads
Have you guys thought about creating a new coupon type that is only for downloads? I give my wedding clients the zip files your download link currently creates. I would like to give them a coupon for free downloads. But I don't want to give them a coupon to have them use it on prints or something and then they come back to me wanting another coupon.

SECONDED!
I really want to offer a coupon for things like "1 free download" but not have the downloads be free in the gallery
FYI, The help document (http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93347) says you can immediately expire a coupon by setting the expiration date to a past date, but you can't do that now. Is there any particular reason? Seems like an easy solution, but it's disabled.
Hi I did have a good look through the pages here but i dont think i can find the question i like to get answered (plus my brain is now very tired).
Can i set up a coupon where, say for instance, i could say to somebody if they buy the first 10 or perhaps 5 prints at full price then the prints after that would have a percentage off, and i want to make sure that i dont go into the red. Packages wouldnt be an option as i want to be able to offer them framed as well.
Thanks,
J.

I don't see any way to do this with the coupon system in smug.
Unterthered coupns
I would like to use your coupon system to offer money off of shoots as opposed to printing, like a gift card for my services. Ideally I would like to offer a separate link to a gallery for my customers to print out denominations ($100, $250, etc) like gift cards that would then be used to 'gift' a photo shoot. The prints then would be available separately and through Smugmug. I could just create graphics to do this independently, but feel the tracking and numerical identity of each coupon would be more secure while also keeping all of my traffic and business flowing through Smugmug. I feel this would also assist with print and merchandise sales.
where are the coupons
I went to your help thread and it said that I could find the "coupon" set up in the "making money" section. It is not there... Do you have any idea why?
thanks Robin

Robin, what account level do you have? Coupons are only available at the Business level. Please add a link to your site in your signature so we can find your account and help you with your questions.

oh! I see... I have the account that is just below that. It would be helpful in the help section of smugmug when it goes into the detailed explanation of how to create coupons, that it would say in that section that you can only create them with a business account... it would have saved me an hour trying to figure out what I was doing wrong

That's why I'd love to see something like: http://grayda.smugmug.com/?code=10percent which would let people get an automatic discount for clicking on my ad.'
Just my 2c though. I'm working around it for the time being.
